Presents for relatives with health problems

I know that each individual will have different interests but I hope this can be a thread of ideas for people that either have long term health problems or have experienced a life changing accident/health event.

I have a relative who had a stroke this year and now can't use the left side of her body. This relative loves crochet and I'm wondering if there are any similar things she could do one handed and produce something at the end of the activity.

For her birthday we bought her a book subscription, a puzzle and a escape room at home type subscription box. I'll find the name of it if anyone is interested.

Also another relative who doesn't really have any interests but normally likes travelling and visiting family, obviously this year would be out anyway but she also is now suffering from chronic pain so can't get about much.

Any ideas welcome!

Good idea. I’d recommend:

  • Turtle Dove cashmere wrist warmers or fingerless gloves for anyone not very mobile who gets cold hands even indoors:

  • Cushioned lap trays for meals, writing, puzzles, which come in endless different designs.
  • Dreamland Intelliheat Multi Purpose Heat Pad. Great for pain and so comforting.

I bought dh (who is disabled so feels the cold in his aching bones) an electric heated throw and he loves it.

OP do you think your relative would enjoy doing a paint by number? You can get very basic ones but also quite lovely very detailed ones if her eyesight and fine motor skills are still good on her right side. See e.g. www.paintplot.com.au/collections/paint-by-number-kits but I'm sure there are equivalent companies that do similar

I'm an avid crocheter. I think needle punching and needle felting might be possible one handed?

I like Cosy things like blankets and dressing gowns If you are in pain having a rubbish day being comfortable really helps as does wine

For your relative that likes travel, would they be at all interested in travel tv programs and/or David Attenborough type things so they can do a bit of armchair travel? Not that exciting I know but I thought that if there is chronic pain to manage as well then dvds are at least low effort to watch, a bit distracting and can be turned off whenever needed. You could try to jazz it up a bit by giving a travel dvd about a particular region/country plus a novel set in the same country and some traditional food/treats from there too

These are great, especially the fake fur ones.
