I was hoping that my parents could fly to the UK to spend Christmas with us, but between Covid and a nasty accident my mum had I've started to accept that's not likely to happen.

My parents are hard to buy for in the best of times and I often went for the "event/tickets" route which doesn't work this year.

So I'm thinking of putting a hamper together for them - but need some suggestions to include please! Because of my mums accident they're pretty much stuck at home watching telly, so thinking about other things to keep them entertained / busy / comfortable.

I've done one for my DF as we usually but theatre tickets. I've put in all his favourite old fashioned sweets, fruit cake, old spice, a novel, a word search book, a crossword book, a keyring with kids pictures and a couple of fancy pens

Where are they from? Maybe include some local delicacies

LivingoffCoffee · 09/11/2020 14:56

@VictoriaClaire28 They're in the US - I'm the one that moved away when I came to the UK. I'm thinking I could include some things from here that are treats for them when they visit (nice F&M tea, etc)

Shortbread. A Christmas pudding. A Terry's Chocolate Orange. Posh jam.

My DD lives in the States at the moment, and her friends always ask her to take over Colman's English Mustard, and Jaffa cakes, but appreciate that they may not be seen as a treat!

Jigsaw?
Subscription to a streaming service? Donation to eg Royal Ballet if streaming for free or tickets to an on-demand performance?
Cosy cashmere/wool blanket for watching TV?

Christmas pudding, yorkshire tea, nice festive biscuits. Craft kits (knitting, crochet, cross stitch?) if they're into that. Gin infusion kit or similar brew-your-own if they enjoy a drink. Some local handmade soaps/bathbombs/honey? Sainsbury's/Waitrose magazines (I found there was a dearth of magazines like these to flick through). A festive decoration to add to their tree personalised from you

It will be very expensive to post and you can't send items such as chocolate to the USA.

Why not look for a local company?

Betty ship to the Usa

I think the "hamper" idea is lovely, but really second finding a local company to support you with this. I worked in the states for a while, then when I came back to UK wanted to continue sending presents. Gosh the postage was normally more than the cost of the present. Internet has made that much easier!
