Sylvanian families

Hello, so thinking of some presents for my daughter nearly 6....

She’s not into Lego and Playmobil. She enjoys outdoor play, board games and craft but I’d really like her to play a bit more imaginative play. I was thinking of sylvanian families - as she can order the house, and the animals are quite cute looking for kids (or chintzy), which might inspire her?

Anyway, is six to old for them? It’s a lot of money to invest. She has one of those wholesome wooden Scandi looking houses with scary looking dolls which she doesn’t touch (I understand why as looks like something in the corner of a Drs surgery).

She keeps looking at them in the shop but I would hate to buy and for it not to be touched!

Anyway, views welcome!!

My dd are 6 and 8. They adore playing with their Sylvanians and are getting more for Xmas!

My two DDs had Syvanians over 20 years ago. Being little horrors, my two “played” with them in ways unimagined by the makers. The rabbits organised drive by shootings at the toy restaurant, the doctor bear molested patients at his clinic and the squirrels were drug smuggling on the Rose of Sylvania narrowboat... Grin

Babdoc that made me laugh as I played with barbies until I was about 13 but they had lots of teenaged pregnancies!

My nieces aged 9, 6 and 3 love them. I have just bought DD age 3 the family of rabbits for Christmas but I suspect DS age 5 will enjoy them just as much.

This is my nieces main gift from emt his year and she is 7 and loves that kind of small world play. I picked up a lot of it quite cheaply in tkmaxx and similar places so i dont feel like ill be disappointed if shes outgrown it in a year or so time. The entertainer is where i picked up the big three storey house for her for £29.99 reduced from £70 so worth a look there if you can

My daughter is nearly 5 and absolutely adores her Sylvanian families! Playing with them occupies her for hours! I've actually got her loads more for her birthday at the beginning of December..... over compensating for having to cancel her big circus party this year!

Her baby sister is only 7 weeks old so I figured that even if DD1 grew out of it in a year or so we have loads of years left for DD2 to enjoy it!

Thank you! I will maybe get a small set and see how she gets on! Thanks

My 4 kids & their cousins have all loved them. They are expensive, but timeless. And there's always a good second hand market for them.

My 11-yr-old still loves Sylvanians and has been playing with them since she was 3. Lots of them were DD1's but she liked to arrange them rather than play with them. DD2 combines them with Playmobil and Lego to create complicated storylines... and chaos. They are expensive but I feel as though we've had our money's worth and when the time comes, we have all the original boxes and packaging saved so they can be sold on.

The Sylvanian Families club is excellent value - this is the first year in about ten that I think we've not renewed. If you do buy a set, I would suggest you also buy some small storage boxes with lids, like the Ikea Glis ones - they are invaluable for keeping the little bits, clothing etc together.
