Hi everyone. I love this Christmas thread every year and this is my first post on it! After many years of buying a Christmas pudding I finally decided to go back to my old favourite recipe, Delia's Traditional Christmas pudding (in a 2 pint Pyrex bowl). I want to cook this in my slow cooker, and looking at other recipes it looks as though it will need about 8 hours on High, followed by reheating for 3 hours on Christmas day. I only have high or low on my cooker. Does this seem about right? Also, I was looking at the reviews of Nigella's Ultimate pud which has very good reviews, but having bought all the ingredients for Delia's I was missing the special sherry (any sherry actually) and prunes. Has anyone made both puddings and how do they compare?

Haven't made the puds but I always do this with the slow cooker. Plug it in in the utility room so not taking up kitchen counter space, and makes less steam than in a pan. So much nicer than microwaved pud

Cooked mine in slow cooker last year ( Delias recipe ) and it was fine, probably agree on the 7/8 hours, I checked the water after 6. Just as a tip , screw up some foil into a ball shape and put in bottom of slow cooker and then put your pudding basin on top of it ( stops the pudding going dry / cooking too quickly )

Eliza Acton’s recipe is online and I highly recommend it! Steamed on high in slow cooker will be fine.
