Presents for kids with no storage space

XjustagirlX · 03/11/2020 09:20

Im a bit stuck this year. I need to buy presents for family members who currently don’t have their own home and are living with family.

I can’t buy them ‘stuff’ as they have nowhere to store it. I also can’t get the kids ‘experiences’ as most places are shut.

The kids are 10 and 5. Also struggling with the parents too. Im quite close to them so can’t really get them a token gift either. Also to make it worse, 3 of them have a birthday in December too!

Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm buying virtual money for computer games, you could buy audible books.

UnbeatenMum · 03/11/2020 12:33

Clothes?

SaltyMagnolia · 03/11/2020 12:33

Maybe the kids would like something like this? Its quite a compact box and most of the contents gets eaten so nothing to store and it's a fun camping-type activity they can do together

Get a Google Play voucher which can be redeemed for a YouTube Premium Membership. Best money every spent, especially during lockdown! Both kids (and parents) can watch unlimited videos without adverts and favourites can also be saved offline to watch without data usage.

Do they have a Kindle? It's small, but can fit hundreds of books on, and then easy to add to each birthday. What sort of budget do you have?
Otherwise edible treats perhaps, or Christmas pyjamas?

PinkJam · 03/11/2020 13:14

What budget are you thinking for each person?

Lovemusic33 · 03/11/2020 14:09

A voucher to use when they get their own house? Or a food hamper, edibles?

XjustagirlX · 03/11/2020 20:53

Oops I forgot to put budget.

Child 1 £50
Child 2 £50
Adult 1 £20
Adult 2 £20

Disney+ subscription, we bought ours when it came out in March, best £50 we spent over lockdown! My DS is two though but we have also watched a lot of movies on it and programs from our childhood Grin

As part of the kids present you could get them one of the cinema smack boxes. There are cinemas round the country selling off huge boxes of popcorn, nachos, dips, candy flops etc for £20. Could get that for the kids to share with a gift card for buying films online maybe?

Ohtannenbaumohtannenbaum · 04/11/2020 00:53

Oh wow sorry for the typos!

Snack boxes candy floss!

Bikingbear · 04/11/2020 01:36

I think I'd half those budgets and give have cash or half in clothes and half in stuff. For the 10yo do they have a console they would want games for?
5 yo I'd add to something they already have. So small Lego set maybe.

The adults I'd suggest wine or tub of biscuits.

Beautiful3 · 04/11/2020 06:39

Activity sets/bath bombs, so when they're done, they can be disposed of.

Jroseforever · 04/11/2020 06:43

Half the £50 budget per child?

I mean I’m not extravagant but surely that’s a bit low for a 10 year old?

Op... for the 10 year old. Check out youngdriver.com. My son adored. Really good driving experience and nothing to store.

Personally, I’d explain to the adults that tight budget this year and that it would be handmade gifts from the kids! And then I’d add budget for the adults to the kids budget.

Jroseforever · 04/11/2020 06:45

And there’s a mini driving experience for the 5 year old! Also... no storage.

But both would probably love something to okay with on Christmas Day. So in addition to the experience... for the five year old one really good toy you know that you’ll get good mileage from. And the 10 year old something they’re keen on too.

A subscription to audible, and extra credits. You can buy 3 credits for £7ish everyone one can make use of it.

Mumdiva99 · 04/11/2020 06:56

Give them two small packs of card games - Uno Flip, Dibble, Monopoly Deal, Exploding Kittens. Add a small hamper of edible treats and put some cash in an envelope for a day out when they can (either give the cash or a voucher) - days out are going to be expensive as people stop doing deals on entrance prices as they can't afford to discount the admission.

EnglishRose1320 · 04/11/2020 07:02

Magazine subscription so they get a magazine each month but it can be recycled and not take up space.

Movie subscriptions if they don't already have them.

A really lovely hamper of fun bath bits like bath crackle, bath bombs etc that can all be used up.

Voucher for favourite food place, things will re open.

Second the suggestion for a couple of small card games, card games are great when space is tight.

My db has asked for small things this year, so the dn's will be getting some fun bath bits that can be used up but are nice to open on Christmas day along with some money.

MorbidMuch · 04/11/2020 07:14

I'd keep it really simple.

For the kids, a selection box, a fancy bath bomb and £40 cash or voucher.

For the adults, do they drink alcohol? Fancy bottle(s) of their favourite tipple each.
If they don't drink alcohol, a voucher for a meal out or takeaway?

NightRiders · 04/11/2020 07:15

I was just talking to someone at work yesterday who bought the young driving experience for her ds last year and it expired yesterday and they weren't able to book on to it at all last year.

Jroseforever · 04/11/2020 08:48

My done went at blue Ayer at end of august this year!

Jroseforever · 04/11/2020 08:49

Sorry

My son went end of August this year at blue water!!

He absolutely LOVED

PinkJam · 04/11/2020 12:50

I think the magazine subscription is a good suggestion. Something to enjoy each month and doesn’t take up space.
