Normally I would buy them a night away in a hotel or a meal out but obviously that's not going to be very good this year.

My dad doesn't use things so edible gifts are better. I bought him some hotel chocolate during lockdown and in the past I have bought him a box of hot chocolate sachets.

My mum is pre-diabetic and has been advised to stay away from sugar so she won't eat or drink anything with sugar in. She is also on Warfarin so can't eat cranberries.

I usually get my mum a couple of crossword books and she reads a lot but usually buys from charity shops and returns them when she has finished. I'm not sure what books she hasn't read.

I live over 100 miles away so have only seen them twice this year. Im not sure when I will be seeing them next. Ideally the gift would be delivered already wrapped.

Thank you in advance.

Netflix or similar

Alexa

Food subscription service

Aquamarine1029 · 02/11/2020 21:15

What about a monthly food box subscription for your dad? There are loads of them for nearly everything. Cheese, biscuits, wine, meat, etc.

MLMbotsgoaway · 02/11/2020 21:15

I’m in the same boat and have considered getting them just-eat vouchers - but we do have quite good restaurants on ours.

Subscriptions are always a good idea - there are some great foodie ones. Or does she like magazines - I always ask for a subscription to the Sainsbury’s mag as I enjoy it.

Would your mum like a gorgeous heated throw for the sofa? One of the really soft and plush ones.

WhenTheDragonsCame · 02/11/2020 21:58

Some interesting suggestions thank you.

My mum has a blanket she has over her lap but it's not heated. Their house does get very cold!

A magazine subscription is a really good idea. Maybe I can find one that has puzzles.

They have sky but I don't think they would use Netflix.

Will look at food subscriptions as well.

Thank you.

Would your Mum like a Kindle ?

Letterbox flowers delivered say monthly or quarterly - lots of companies do this

Or a bird feeder for garden, cheese subscription for your Dad or a magazine - tons of choice around & lots of offers this time of year. A paper from year he was born or some sort of ancestry kit ?

BeaLola my mum has a kindle fire and a Nintendo DS she uses to play games. She still seems to prefer actual books and always has a pile to read and a pile to take back to the charity shop. I don't think she buys them new very often.

My mum also has asthma and she finds flowers sets her off. She is ok with plants but for some reason not cut flowers.

I think I am going to go for a puzzle book subscription for my mum and a chocolate subscription for my dad.

If your mum has a kindle what about some over the ear headphones to listen to audio books.

Also check out Yumbles a site for gift food and treats. They have a gluten, vegan, sugar free section. Easily laid out. They often have codes too so check first

Shameless plug here, might not be your/parents style but I’ve been making these little personalised family figures for lots of people as gifts for their parents.

One customer ordered a set for each set of grandparents and one for themselves including both sets of grandparents!

They’ve been very well received. PM if you want details of my page.

Last year my sons clubbed together and sent me a box from Waitrose of booze, savoury nibbles, biscuits, chocs and various titbits. It was much appreciated.

WhenTheDragonsCame · 04/11/2020 20:27

Catflapkitkat my dad has some headphones and my mum takes the mick out of him so I'm not sure she would use it.

TheShoeLady they are lovely but my mum is constantly trying to get rid of things and my dad is constantly adding more!

eddiemairswife that sounds good. They don't have a Waitrose where they live so that might be appreciated. Neither drink at home but some snacks would be good.

If they have a cold house how about a down duvet? Ikea do very warm ones, I am buying one for my sister this year as it's something's she'll never buy herself. Ikea could deliver and you could send a nice duvet cover gift wrapped to make it more Christmassy?

Srictlybakeoff · 04/11/2020 20:53

Aldo do some reasonably priced but nice hampers

Be aware that Ikea duvets are often European sizes and not all duvet covers fit.
