Hi, I am having a traditional Christmas dinner, on the 24th, since iam working on the 25th. I am having guests (covid allowing) on Boxing day, so looking for some alternative ideas for lunch, no dietary restrictions, all meat eaters .

I'd do this ham recipe www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3032/maple-and-mustard-glazed-ham It serves 8-10, but when it's part of a buffet if should be enough.
I'd also do a pulled beef brisket.
Warm crusty bread rolls or Jacket potatoes
Green salad
Christmas slaw recipe, recipe serves 6 so I'd double it and add in a bit of red cabbage as well. The dressing really complements ham. www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/890635/christmas-slaw
Extras for the rolls/potatoes including grated cheese, apple sauce, tomato chutney and piccalill

Or....
Indian spiced roast lamb with pickled red onion, mango chutney, raita, warm chipatis and this chickpea salad www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/punjabi-style-chickpea-salad perhaps even these paneer skewers www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/paneerandvegetablesk_86440

I’d do a load of pies. Easy to make/buy in advance and stick in the oven on the day.

Or sausages and braised lentils with something like kale or tender stem broccoli. Nigella’s red wine braised lentils in the feast book are great and actually improve on keeping for a few days. They’re nice done with mulled wine for Christmas.

Or were you thinking of a lighter lunch? Pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw always went down well here (before we went veggie!). Easy to just put in a slow cooker and forget about.

Cold ham and turkey, pigs in blankets, pickled onions/chutneys, baked potatoes, home made coleslaw (cabbage, carrot, celery, onion, apple) warm macaroni pie (a delish baked mix of macaroni, cheese, eggs and milk).

Those always go down very well here.

Thanks, some great ideas to look at.

We have a farmer locally who drags us round on a trailer behind his tractor so we can warble carols and then he feeds us in his lovely farmhouse afterwards. The food is a highlight of Christmas for us warblers. He bakes a clove-studded, mustard and honey glazed ham and makes bread rolls, two different soups and a couple of pies, lots of chutneys and pickles, cheese straws, hot sausage rolls, mince pies and brandy butter, slabs of fruit cake, cheese board with grapes. It's just lovely and I'm gutted we won't get to do it this year. I think it works because there's plenty of choice, it's relaxed and you can go back for entirely different seconds, which is 76% of the beauty of a buffet.

You either do all the leftover meat, pickles, jacket potatoes etc or you do turkey curry. Thems the Boxing Day rules.

We always cook extra on Christmas day and turn it into a pie! It is the BEST thing ever and everyone looks forward to it every year.

ready to roll pastry split into 3 channels then chuck all your roast dinner bits in the middle- so turkey, chopped up pigs in blankets, stuffing, veg, gravey etc then cut the sides into strips and fold over so that it looks like a strudel and cook in the oven.
Re-heat roast potatoes and some veg and you have an effortless meal that looks like you have gone to a lot of effort.

That sounds bloody lovely!!!

I’m planning on a honey mustard ham - tried the ham in coke for the first time a few weeks ago and it went down well so will just do that with a glaze. I’ll then do pickles and get some part-baked rolls and I’ve got a cheese bake thing on order so will serve that too.

We always do left over meat, chutneys, bread, chips, pickled onions, We usually order a giant pig in blanket for boxing day too. Just food to nibble on and help yourself too. But if that's not your thing you could always do a curry or a pie with the leftovers.

VestaTilley · 06/11/2020 11:28

We always have cold leftover meats, homemade chips, pickles and chutneys and bubble and squeak.

What about a turkey and ham pie? Great way to use leftovers, including any leftover gravy.

We make Pizza here , it's a Tradition that has gone back years ( DS insists Xmas Grin )

First thing Boxing Day morning the dough gets kneaded then left to slow prove then flattened onto trays

Then everyone adds whtever they want and bake .

@Mustbethewine giant pig in blanket with all the leftovers is an excellent shout. That's going on the list!
