Sharpie or other pens

What ages did you let your children use these at? Are they a nightmare/impossible to get off tables, hands etc? My 7yr old loves watching YouTube drawing classes which seem to use black markers around drawings. He’s desperate to use a sharpie having used at friends. Problem is he draws in livingroom mainly and has a 3.5yr old sibling so I’m not overly keen to have permanent markers. We use crayons washable pens mainly but he’s gone through all the black ones. Any suggestions. Thanks

Art for.kids hub? Dd loves that channel on YouTube. She uses them and has done since age 5 but we have very clear rules - only use on an a4 sheet with 2 sheets of A3 underneath and only on thr table so dd2 can't reach. She knows that is they go on the floor, they go in the bin. Plus I don't love my coffee table too much, so if it did get on there I'm not too upset about scrubbing to get it off.

You know I think might bite the bullet and get some for him. He’s quite sensible I just worry he’ll want to use all the time and obviously it’s the younger child trying to do the same but your rules sound good.

My DD loves artforkids hub too and we let her use Sharpies from age 4. She's been fine with them and wece since bought her the colouring pens they use, or like them anyway - oleep from Amazon. Also permanent and alcohol based. The only issue I have is that she'll happily draw for hours and they can be quite strong smelling/fumey so I have to open a window!

I would let him have them if he follows rules - must be at kitchen table , placemat or bigger sheets of paper under his drawings ( we had a thin plastic placemats for art and crafty activities ) , must be put away properly after use . You can get the black sharpies in packs on their own . They’d be perfect for his stocking ?

I but stabilo 68s in packs cheaply when they are on offer on Amazon. I then restock the black red and yellow (big Pokémon and art4kids fans in this house!) Individually from cult pens when they run out. We get through a lot of printer paper and I think Sharpies are a waste as the paper just sucks all the ink out so quickly. Dc are now old enough to also be allowed to use my nice (but expensive) Tomsbows which are also water based.

Oh thank you I’ll look at the other brand too. I wish more packets of just black thickish pens were sold on their own.

DD did the classic thing of using Sharpies at the dining table and it went through the paper on to the wood. But a quick google and I found what to remove it with so wasn't the nightmare I first thought. Table is varnished wood.
