Main present?

Do you buy a “main present” for your DC every year?

I usually just buy 3 or 4 regular sized presents and then smaller stuff for the stockings.

But wondering now whether I should change to one big present and then a couple of smaller ones?

Do you have a set way of doing it every year or does it change?

Santa brings one thing they've asked for (and at under 9, they both get something around the £30-40 Mark for this). Santa also fills their stocking (little bits).

Me and dh then get them a selection of bits (jigsaw, pjs, book, board game) each.

I imagine it will change as they get older and I assume when they are teens they will mainly want a console/cash. So we keep it simple while we can.

I usually seem to end up buying a couple of things, one they have asked for and a surprise.

The surprise is usually something that they need or could do with but not their hearts desire, ie DS1 would only ask for lego but sometimes a new bike or a wider range of toys is required.

We do it where she asks father Christmas for her main presents. She has asked for toy story figures so she will get Buzz Woody and Jessie in her stocking. We have got her some puzzles and books, and we are going to get her a remote control car :) she is 4 so she doesnt get little bits as she has enough! Haha

We've never really done 'main' presents, just a few smaller items. Maybe because they've never really asked for a big item that would use all the budget! Not sure how that's happened with 3 of them actually, we must have been lucky Grin

You also have to be careful with these types of conversations as what some people would class as a normal present others would class as a main present.
I bought an ok scooter for DNephew, but I've bought a more expensive scooter for DS as a main present. On paper they are both scooters.

People have different budgets and stuff. Also some people will buy stuff when they see a need others keep everything until Birthday and Christmas, easier to do if you have summer birthdays.

Some years there’s a main present and other years there’s not.
It’s very dependant on what they want/need.
If they have asked for an expensive present then these are always off us and the smaller/cheaper gifts from Father Christmas.

It depends on what is being asked for and our budget / financial situation. This year DS has asked for a small thing so we’ve got him a couple of bigger things he will like (a joystick thingie that works with his PlayStation, a couple of PS4 games and a table air hockey board).

Changes depending on what they'd like. But there's usually one present I'm particularly excited to give them as I know they'll absolutely love it, so it does tend to be a 'main' present.

Mine ask for one thing from father Christmas (has to be realistic, I. E. Not a pony) , it's never been expensive before but this year DS has asked for a Nintendo switch. My comparison DD has asked for a chocolate lolly maker (£12 from amazon and then another & 5 for some bars of chocolate to melt down to make the lollies).
I buy other surprises from us with what is left of the budget I set each year. For DS this obviously isn't much as the Switch has wiped most of his budget, but he has never been one to notice who has the most presents. He's pretty easy going and is always made up with his father Christmas gift

We do one big present from me & DH (£30-50), then 6-10 smaller present from Santa, totaling up to £50, sometimes less if they got a bigger main present.

Stocking is mainly sweets, fruit, and small pound shop tat. Probably about £5.

My son gets one main present which his dad and I go half on (we’re separated) and then we each get him our own other bits and pieces and I also do a stocking for him. His main present is usually quite expensive, but he’s a teenager!
