So my DP and I are having Christmas this year together and his DS9 will be there for the day.

I want to get him a present. Budget up to £50 but I don't have a clue about boys, DP doesnot know what to get him either.

The only thing he is into is fortnite.

Please help!

Some ideas based on DS who is 9 and what he has and enjoys or wants
Gravitrax
Alexa Dot
Guinness book of records
Ripley's believe it or not
Lego
Fortnite Monopoly
National geographic kits - various ones, gemstone dig etc
Magazine subscription - DS gets The Week junior and Match of the Day currently. He's had Whizz, Pop, Bang in the past
Telescope
Sequence game
Football strip
Domino rally

I think you need to find out what he's into though as whilst DS would love any books I know a lot of his friends probably wouldn't thank you for them. Good luck!

Ginandtonic4all · 29/10/2020 19:22

Fab thanks. Trouble is - he's not into anything other than fortnite. I've asked him and he says he does not know what he wants or likes!!!

I know there is a new Fortnite bundle coming out in November if you know which console he plays on, ps4, Xbox etc. Google Fortnite and Joker bundle. I’ve preordered for I think £24.

An Alexa will be popular with most 9 Yr old boys.

Akire · 29/10/2020 19:25

Some family board games you can all play together? Science or craft sets they still enjoy at that age.

LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 29/10/2020 19:26

Science kit (hasten to add, I would also give to a similar-aged girl)

Spied · 29/10/2020 19:28

I'd find out what console he plays on ie Xbox or Playstation. There's a lot of cool merchandise. I'm getting my DS the PlayStation lava lamp.

MrJinxyCat · 29/10/2020 19:38

I’d go for the Gravitrax starter set. Gives him something to sit on the floor and make on Xmas day and he can add accessories to it.
£35 on Amazon at the moment so you could get a game/book also.
Lego
Too trumps card game
Games popular with my 9 year old are:
Bananagrams
Cockroach poker
Qwixx
Sock game
Taco, cat, goat, cheese, pizza card game

The fortnite bundle can be got for £18/19 if you use the popup code for ebay.
My boys love fortnite/ gaming. Has he got headphones? Ps4 clock, lava lamp, symbol light.
Other big hits here are amazon alexa, bluetooth wireless speaker, scooter, rush hour game.

I think its lovely that you are looking for ideas to make your partner's son happy on Christmas Day and hope you have a lovely Christmas, but figuring out presents for him is really his Dad's job. 'Doesn't know what to get him either' is not a good enough answer.

Be considerate to your partner's son's needs but don't burden yourself with wifework too soon.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 29/10/2020 20:03

He loves Fortnite. Get a Fortnite bundle and headset with microphone. He will love that.

Laurendelight · 29/10/2020 20:10

I would use the opportunity to create new traditions. Assuming he isn’t on fortnite 24/7 I would start a board game tradition you can all play, maybe get him a science or programming or building toy that he and his dad can do. Lots of ideas on the KSST website posted by another user.

Whitewhite · 29/10/2020 20:13

Fortnite bedding?

MaosChaos · 29/10/2020 20:17

Fortnight rucksack??

Deffo a decent sized chocolate santa.

WhoUsedMyName · 29/10/2020 20:21

Get a gift card for what ever game console he had because he will just blow it all on skins and crap for fortnight. it's a complete waste of money but you will be his hero and I bet it will be the best present he gets

WoobyWoo · 29/10/2020 21:06

I agree. You aren’t his mum, you don’t need to make it worthy or educational or try to turn his tastes around into something you’d prefer, get something fun that is probably a massive waste but will 100% just make him happy. Grin

Isadora2007 · 29/10/2020 22:43

Is £50 from you?
My son would be delighted with a £20 card for the Xbox or PlayStation to buy V bucks (fortnite currency) plus an oversized fortnite hoody and a board game or card game would be within budget. The hoodie is on
Amazon around £22- game for £12/14 plus a large chocolate Santa- job done!

movingonup20 · 29/10/2020 22:48

I would buy a telescope and a book on the night sky - encourage interests other than fortnight. Once they reopen from covid many observatories have junior sky watcher clubs. I had one at that age and have loved the night sky ever since

Iggly · 29/10/2020 22:50

Does he play Among Us?

My ds is obsessed with fortnite. So you could get virtual fortnite currency, fortnite themed toys etc? Fortnite books?

Pansypath · 29/10/2020 23:42

My ds will be 8 and is more into toys than computer games and wants a smash ‘em giant egg. Also Lego. There are fortnight sets. My son also loves vouchers to buy what he wants in places like The Entertainer.

Bikingbear · 30/10/2020 08:03

I think Gravitrax might be a good idea. Something that he can build alone or with you and his Dad, it also gives you ideas for birthday with expansion sets.

Is he into Lego at all as that gives endless possibilities.

justwinginglife1 · 30/10/2020 22:06

Another vote here for the oversize fortnite hoodie - £20 on Amazon. Both my kids are asking for oodies this year, they seem to be very popular

Avebury · 30/10/2020 22:32

What about a table tennis net to go over the dining table if you have a big enough table. DN loved that last year. Not expensive either so could also give a gift card for him to blow on on line purchases.
