Stir up Sunday is looming (sort of) and I usually go Delia but this year.......thinking of making a controversial move towards Mezzer.

Any thoughts?

I just do a mash up of Darina Allen and Rachel Allen. I don't want nuts in it so I just substitute more fruit.

billybagpuss · 27/10/2020 19:09

Nooooo Delia every time

bruffin · 27/10/2020 19:09

LumpySpacedPrincess · 27/10/2020 19:13

This one

VestaTilley · 27/10/2020 19:16

I switched to Delia from Nigel last year and was glad I had; I’ll be sticking with Delia.

XiCi · 27/10/2020 20:21

I've gone with Mary Berry this year. It looks and smells divine. Was very tempted to just dive straight in Smile

OneMoreForExtra · 27/10/2020 20:22

Nigella

everythingisginandroses · 27/10/2020 20:28

Delia - her recipes always work plus she has a picture of her cuddling her cat on the jacket of one of her books, whereas Mary Berry just reminds me of a cat's bum

Moonflower12 · 27/10/2020 20:28

Nigella

pandafunfactory · 27/10/2020 20:29

Nigella from Christmas book with treacle not marmalade

colouringindoors · 27/10/2020 20:32

Delia. Every time. Reliable and delicious

Hassled · 27/10/2020 20:36

I went rogue last year and made some dry disappointment with zero structural integrity. This year I'm back to Delia and will never stray again. Delia knows her fruit cakes.

Madbengalmum · 27/10/2020 20:39

Delia without question.

TheABC · 27/10/2020 20:45

Waitrose. Grin

I have sworn off making fruitcakes after DH accidentally set fire to the last one with home-made plum gin!

Atinytrolley · 27/10/2020 21:06

Nigella

RaggieDolls · 27/10/2020 21:10

I switched from Delia to Mary last year. Delia was a bit dry. I prefer Mary.

Phillpot12 · 27/10/2020 21:13

Waitrose Christmas cake kit in a box, based on a Delia recipe I think. Lazy but works brilliantly! Smile

RaggieDolls · 27/10/2020 21:13

Psssss my fruit is soaking!

laughoutquiet · 27/10/2020 21:14

Which Delia one though? I've just googled and there's three!

ouchmyfeet · 27/10/2020 21:20

Neither, Nigella.

orangenasturtium · 27/10/2020 21:32

A Delia and Nigel mash up with chopped soft prunes. It makes the cake so much moister. Although I am quite heay handed when it comes to feeding the cake.

I bought one of the Waitrose kits in the January sales one year and TBH it was pretty good. I did substitute some of the fruit with extra prunes though Grin But it makes a very thin cake. It's definitely worth considering if you are on budget, as even at full price, it works out a lot cheaper than buying the ingredients separately. I often end up with lots of leftover dried fruit/black treacle/suet that I don't have a use for until next Christmas.

BellaVita · 27/10/2020 21:34

Delia!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2020 21:35

I was flabbergasted to find out this week Delia has more than one recipe. For about 20 years I've made the same cake. Too scared to try a different recipe, so I used my trusty one again.

Voiceofreason92 · 27/10/2020 21:42

I switched from Delia to Mary a few years ago. Mary is far more moist. Ive been making Delia for years, but as soon as i switched i had far more compliments on it

This one, been making it for ten years, usually two of them (one for in laws) , never fails me. Gets a good soaking weekly until mid December and I always make them now (Oct half term)
