Over lockdown Amazon has become the go to site for purchasing stuff for us. We were talking this week about how Amazon is destroying our high street so we are trying a one year of zero Amazon purchases challenge in our family.

Can anyone here give me a list of different sites that are great for gifts etc. Preferably small online businesses. Thanks.

This thread has got me thinking- I buy far too much on amazon and would like to stop altogether (probably with the exception of audible as I have hundreds of audiobooks on there). I've now decided that I am going to try and do as much of my shopping not on amazon (but still use amazon for browsing) and completing stop using it by the end of the year.

Dog food seems to be the main thing that might cost quite a bit more purchasing elsewhere, I buy Lily's Kitchen and it looks to be substantially cheaper using amazon subscribe and save than anywhere else, including the Lily's Kitchen website.

I don't like Amazon. I used to use it for books when it first started, but it is killing smaller retailers, also I don't like its treatment of staff. Those in the warehouses are encouraged to work when sick. I read that those in the offices frequently end up in tears.
So about 8 years ago my family began a sort of boycott of Amazon. We don't use it unless we really need the item and really can't get it anywhere else. I think there's been about six purchases. Each one leaves a mark on your soul.
But increasingly I'm finding stuff from eBay is quite shit.
So now I buy stuff from established retailers (M&S, Boots, Waterstones) or local retailers.

Can I also recommend the Facebook group "Black owned economy" where you can support black owned businesses. Anyone can join, but only black owned businesses can advertise.
