Tent for DH and DS....HELP

Hello all, I'm buying DH and DH a shared tent for Christmas- they want to start camping (no idea why). I'm looking for a sturdy tent, easy to assemble, that's got two sleeping compartments and perhaps a little awning bit they can sit under in the cold and pissing rain.
Can anyone recommend something, bearing in mind I refuse to enter a tent at the best of times. I really don't want to spend more than a couple of hundred. TIA

You need to take them to an outdoor shop and work out exactly what they require.

We have six tents (I think... I've lost count) and they have very different purposes. They vary from a 1 man hike tent to a massive airbeam.

A lot will depend on how they are planning to get to the campsite, car will give you more flexibility while if you need to fit everything into rucksacks then you'll need to be looking at something small and lightweight.

Something like this would be fine for a car camping weekend or few days trip www.blacks.co.uk/15986793/eurohike-avon-3-dlx-nightfall-tent-15986793. Generally reasonably easy to up and gives you a bit of space at the front for your kit.

To get something with two seperate sleeping compartments you're probably looking at family tests, 4 or 5 person. That's going to be more expensive and take them a bit longer to put up, but if they are expected to be able to stand up in the tent, or sit in the porch to pay cards then might be what they are thinking of.

Try decathlon if you have one near to you. Reasonable designs but maybe not as durable as some, but price reflects that. Can try camping out without massive investment.

I would want to choose my own tent if I was the one using it. A couple of hundred is a lot of money if they would have preferred a different one.

Something like this cheap and basic

Or this more robust ?

Half the fun is going somewhere that have them put up and trying them out.
Go outdoors, decathlon.

Agree, you can't choose someone else's tent. Give them an iou and let them join in the fun of choosing
