If she is in her own she is allowed to join another household so if there is anyone I'd encourage that!

What about booking a photo session outdoors with a local photographer to her for the whole family? Then it's a promise of seeing you all as well as ferrying some fab photos.

One if those memory blankets of photos of her with her DGC?

Isle of Arran gamier/cheese hamper.

Send her Xmas dinner by booking a delivery for her.

Afternoon tea.

Books, Netflix subscription, advent of letters/pictures from DGC.

Thanks for suggestions so far 😊

She lives alone and we all live a flight away unfortunately she is too scared to mix with others and she is jn Scotland so I think this is not allowed atm☹️

advent of letters/pictures from DGC

I am stealing that idea for our family!

TheSockMonster · 22/10/2020 07:46

This might not help with the loneliness, but my Great Aunt used to love Francis Frith calendars made up of old photos of places she’d lived.

They have a huge image library which I think covers Scotland too.

Thanks for the suggestions 😊

Does she have any interests. I would be happy with a selection of books, or some seriously sumptuous bath stuff.
you can buy afternoon tea to be delivered.
An of course posh chocs.

As a single person she can join another household. Are there any family members/friends/neighbours she can link up with? You can't chop and change your bubble but maybe having one other household she can spend a little time with would bring her some comfort?

I'm in Scotland and if you live alone you can join a support bubble with one other household. It's such a difficult time just now, I hope you get something lovely for her. I'm in West central Scotland so if you need help with a doorstep delivery let me know. Mention on here if you have mailed me as I always forget to check messages!

We sent M&S hampers to an aunt every xmas, full of little treats, she enjoyed them.

dingledongle · 23/10/2020 14:13

Thank you everyone you have been so kind Smile

I am not sure she is happy to 'bubble' as she is quite nervous about it all.

Her family live in different countries, us included Sad

I am so sorry for her, this is so tough. My mum had a very serious lung op earlier this year and with kids at school we can't see her safely for her birthday in November. She has everything so we would have treated her to a posh afternoon tea out. We are doing her a special hamper with a mixture of homemade and posh brought things. I will keep back some scones, make an extra small cake etc then we will set up Skype and get her to open her presents and 'join' her for afternoon tea if that makes sense? Its the being together that she most misses so this gives us a little bit of that back. I wonder if your mil would like similar?

dingledongle · 27/10/2020 15:18

Great suggestions, unfortunately she does not use internet otherwise skype would be great

We are thinking a hamper etc but it is the company that is lacking tbh Sad
