Looking for ideas for my 16 year old brother please! He’s not a gamer, plays a lot of hockey and is amazing at baking (Makes macarons when bored). During lockdown he’s worked himself through a lot of Yotam Ottolenghi. He’s already got a blowtorch and an ice cream maker but if you have any other recommendations that would be fab!

Nice bundt tin?

Hi Op, there is a shop called Divertimenti in Chelsea that may provide you with some inspiration. They do gift cards from £10 too. My sister has bought from them before and found them good.

What about a really good apron if he doesn't have one? DD is also a very keen baker and this was probably her favourite birthday gift.

What about a monthly baking subscription? I have this and it’s brilliant as it pushes me to try new recipes:

danish whisk

I want one after seeing a video on Youtube - they are fantastic for dough and cake mixes, apparently

Lovemusic33 · 21/10/2020 07:53

Has he got a silicone mat for macarons?

Pastry cutters, piping nozzles, sugar shaker/duster, pastry brush 🤔

I bake a lot and would probably appreciate brownie tins, fancy cupcake cases and chocolate moulds (flour I time moulds).

Does he bake bread? A few loaf tins and different flours / ingredients for bread such as seeds.

A really nice folder to make his own recipe book. Filofax do a 'clipbook' A5 size for about £15 and you can get specialised baking journals

I bake a lot and the best accesssory i have bought in years is a four tier cooling rack (it folds flat) as seen on Bake Off. i also support the idea of books to store recipes in. I now have several specialised ones - baking, main courses etc., - my original , general one have been full to bursting.

Pasta maker maybe?

bettyskitchen · 21/10/2020 08:42

I had a subscription for Honeywell Biscuit which I'd really recommend, I received instructions and ingredients for things I wouldn't usually make so it was nice to try something new.

Other ideas: silicon baking mat, sugar thermometer, angled spatula, cake turntable if he likes decorating cakes, baking beads.

I'm really enjoying Edd Kimber's One Tin Bakes - I picked this up for £9 on Amazon and you can get the accompanying tin on Amazon for around £10.

Ottolenghi Sweet is a great book (not sure if this is the one he's been working through), as is The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook.

Some of the things in this gift guide are way over budget, but others are in your price range and there are some lovely creative ideas...

Lakeland vouchers or pay for a cookery class if you can find one locally.

This particular course is quite expensive but there are often others that cost a bit less.

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/10/2020 08:59

Just re-read the OP. Probably nothing under £40 but maybe you could combine Christmas and a Birthday,

Peeeas · 21/10/2020 09:45

If he likes to make full size cakes, cake saw for leveling, icing turntable?
