Any ideas for 9 year old girl?

I want to get something they will love, but I haven't seen them much this year (wonder why) and have no idea what they are currently into.

She is fairly 'girlie' kind and clever and generally altogether lovely.

Spend approx £20-£30.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

My9yo loves books, sewing, baking, Harry Potter, Lego, board games, puzzles, Beanie Boos, and dark clothing. I have no idea how representative she is. Safe presents are usually craft or science kits. Maybe simple jewellery.

Spirograph
Kumi Kreator
Glitter lava lamp
Popcorn machine
Bath bomb kit
Awful Auntie Cluedo game

Lol, my 9 year old sounds almost exactly like Aroundtheworldin80moves's Dd, apart from I would say mine likes velvety or furry or fluffy clothing.

Her favourite birthday presents were a onesie, a colour changing ring and a pair of binoculars, if that helps.

Book tokens if you're not able to find out what they're into. Or a magazine subscription.

If you don't know what she's into then avoid Harry Potter or Sylvanians etc. Go for something fairly safe like a Joules/Boden hat and scarf set, or something crafty.

Lego friends

For a 9 year old, I would look at Smiggle stuff. Very popular with that age group. Another idea would be lush bath bombs.

Dd1 aged 9 would say smiggle is too young for her and noticeably its younger kids with the bags / lunchbags at school dd2 6yrs would sell her soul for a spending pree in smiggle

Thanks for the suggestions, I've started googling - no Lush purchases for me London I guess you don't frequent the Feminism Board? Grin

@goisey oh rubbish, I’ve given you two crap ideas then 😆

@TryingtobePrepared round here, smiggle pencil cases are all the rage for 9 year olds but I agree would be very disappointing to receive if you think they are too young.
Lush, feminist board, no I've no idea! God job I didn’t recommend Bodyshop too.
Hope you find the perfect gift! 😄

Londoncatshed · 16/10/2020 09:29

Good not god, not bringing religion into it.

AriettyHomily · 16/10/2020 09:32

Smiggle would be social suicide for a 9 year old here!

Mine like face masks, nail varnish, craft kits, Lego Friends, fancy stationery, cash or vouchers. You get say a £20 voucher or cash and wrap it in a lovely journal or similar.

OrganTransplant123 · 16/10/2020 09:42

Mine would hate Lego Friends but love Lego Harry Potter.

Other ideas:
Wreck that Journal
Stationary/paints/notebook
Aquila magazine subscription

Jenga
Paint your own mug/plate/flowerpot
Ukelele or keyboard
Giant poster to colour in
Marble run
Hama beads

Hazelmazel · 16/10/2020 09:59

I have a just-turned-10 dd and have got her this Lego hedwig set - LEGO 75979 Harry Potter Hedwig the Owl Figure Collectible Display Model with Moving Wings www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0813S3VDM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_AawIFb82H0XJ1?tag=mumsnetforu03-21
She likes watching Lego friends but the sets are a bit crap.
She also loves onesies (the more ridiculous the better), reading (little book light & book token?), slime and anything with a poo emoji Hmm

Update:
I went for a glitter lava lamp in the end.
I thought this was a safe bet as she might have all the other stuff/not be interested in it. I'm 90% sure she will like the lava lamp - it's so pretty looking.

I loved the bath bomb idea, but all the kits were full of plastic crap.
(Not that a glitter lava lamp isn't!)

Thanks everyone, I might have to re-visit this thread towards Christmas (gift is for birthday).

If anyone comes across a lovely looking more eco friendly bath bomb kit, please link.

That's a great idea op! Mine would love it.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/10/2020 11:39

I think all the 9yo girls I know would love that... And many of the boys.

As for bath bombs without plastic... You could make your own kit. I've used this recipe successfully, and all the ingredients are easy to buy. www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/how-make-bath-bomb/amp

Mumdiva99 · 17/10/2020 07:09

My daughter would love the lamp.

I often get a tie dye kit and a plain white t-shirt for kids I'm not 100% sure on. It usually goes down well.
