Budget Christmas

For lots of reasons, my budget for my childrens Christmas presents is quite low this year, feel bad about it but can't do anything about it at the moment.
Was hoping you could give me some present suggestions please. 80 pounds each child - probably less for the littlest. Thanks very much for any help.

My mum is doing their stocking for me. No tech or books needed. 🙂

There's lovely makeup and toiletry sets in boots 3 for 2 for teen and little ones.

I think there's toy sale events usually towards end of Sept and early October for places like smyths, tesco etc

Toysforapound is a fab site where you can get loads of bargains bargains kids, branded and popular toys.

Argos 2 for £15 toys have a great range.
The works 2 for £10.

Check out the bargains threads on here too, loads of good deals from there x

When I did a budget Christmases I got gifts from Facebook marketplace. My kids were younger though, ds was 1 and then 2 and I did his whole Christmas for less than £20. Ds was 3 then 4. Got her the same as I would have bought from Argos or wherever but pre-loved for a couple of quid and a couple of bits, like a dressing up costume and a doll, for free. Definitely harder with the older ones but could work for your youngest x

Just to say £80 each is LOADS! You’ll be absolutely fine on that budget, and you really shouldn’t feel bad about it - that’s a lot more than many people can spend.

HungryHippo11 · 08/09/2021 22:43

Someone has probably already said, but do keep an eye on marketplace and charity shops for bargains - sometimes even brand new - at a fraction of the price. Especially for littler ones.

Aldi have a lot of good stuff - for the 5 year old they had a lot of minions stuff if he is into that. Jigsaw puzzles, science kits etc.

I actually think £80 is a pretty healthy budget especially for the under 10s, given that you don't need to do stocking either.

Did a fantasy shop lol as if I had £80 to spend on items on a 14 dd atm. Came up with:

Chocolate selection box (£1 poundland)
Flower hair grips (£3 Claire accessories sale)
Perfume (£3.50 primark)
Fake leather jacket (£14 primark)
Cherry pendant necklace (£8 River island)
Nivea pamper clay gift set (£3.49 home bargains)
Treseme perfect getaway hair set (£3.99 home bargains)
Cd (£10.99 hmv)
Revolution Pro rock star collection (£25 revolution beauty website)
Embroidered rose trainers (£5 everythingfivepounds)

Boots had an online makeup bundle with pretty decent brands like essie nail varnish for £10.

Check the bargain thread on the Christmas board, some fab bargains & discount codes on there.

Have a clear out of your kids old toys & stuff and sell on fb marketplace, car boot sales etc. People are buying more second hand now so it's an opportunity to clear out and raise cash.

Consider more experience gifts like trampoline, soft play, swimming passes they can use through the year. Pantos l, seeing light switch on, local NT Christmas light trail etc.

Thread 5 - the one where I saw 999 and panicked!

This is the Christmas bargain thread.

Think ahead and look at Ali express, especially for the 14yo. My 14yo likes the fluffy tote bags cute plushies etc.

If you order by end of October ish you can get direct for much less than buying the same thing from eBay from someone who's already imported it. You just need to be prepared not to get them in a week.

Also same with figits if the younger ones like them. I bought a big selection of them for £15 - would have been loads more to buy individually from a corner shop over here.

CrackerGal · 09/09/2021 08:42

I managed to get my youngest some American girl items (doll & bed) cheaply from Marketplace. Also got her some our generation accessories for the doll cheaply in the smyths sale. Not relevant to you I know because you are buying for boys! Just to say you might find bigger ticket items cheaply on marketplace etc if you're looking for something specific and if it doesn't have to be new. My teens like designer items but are happy to try DH Gate this year. I'd need to be ordering soon from there though I think. One of them found a pair of lil nas's devil shoes on there & is desperate for them 🤣 Best of luck with the search for gifts & the budget 🌟

Yes agreed! Aliexpress & DH Gate are great for bits for teens/kids. Also OP ~ I forgot about Shein. My teen girls are obsessed with that app. Although it's China it only takes around 2 weeks tops to receive items from there. Lots of fashionable clothes & you can look at reviews for sizing etc. They also have a huge amount of super cheap fidget Toys on there if you wanted to make a fidget pack (fidget trading super popular with primary school kids right now). My daughter has lots from there & loves them.
Newnormal99 · 09/09/2021 11:44

@CrackerGal forgot about SHEIN - I seem to have parcels arriving daily sometimes with her name on from them!

Yes Shein is so popular with teens & primark prices too!
Also so much quicker to deliver.
One of mine had a Shein wishlist she wanted for Xmas last year.

This is an old thread from last year but actually I had a read through and there are some good ideas on here. I just popped into a charity shop today and they had some great stuff..... I got seven books and a pack of four hot wheels cars for £8. I'm going to keep a couple of the books for Christmas presents and the toy cars for stockings.
