Decorate my crutches!

So it's my favourite time of year and the run up to Xmas and I've been put on crutches until dc2 arrives in feb. Brilliant.
The only thing stopping me from thinking about how difficult this is going to be with a 2 year old is the fun I can have with them, including decorating the crutches for Halloween and Xmas.
So, give me some Xmas decorating ideas for them!
I did think tinsel but it's incredibly itchy! So far, I'm leaning towards a candy cane style ribbon arrangement but not sure what to do at the top or the handles.
Any other ideas for a bit of fun during this shit show that is 2020?!

Reindeer or Santa’s legs?

Or elf legs with elf slippers attached near the bottom

Just don’t put anything over the bottom (could make it slip) or the handles (same reason)

Maybe not so great if your crutches are only on loan, but a friend of mine always covers her crutches in patterned duct tape, and it looks great. Perhaps you could use washi tape if you need a less permanent solution?

I spent a long time on crutches as a child and found I really needed some padding on the handles, so maybe you could fashion something using a festive fabric?

I put tinsel around mine at Christmas, until a teacher at school made me take it off Angry Scrooge!

Red and green ribbon candy cane style, worked for my wedding. My junior bridesmaid broke her ankle 6 days before the wedding.

For Christmas I'd be tempted to hang a couple of baubles from the handles.

Thanks all, these are good ideas. I do need some padding on the handles, at the moment I have rolled over socks!
I think some green, red, white ribbon in candy cane style, some festive padded handles and some baubles are a good idea!

The handles I'd probably use pipe insulation and tape over the top. You can't really see the handles when they are in use.

pearsapiece Dd has been a crutch user and still is occasionally.
You can buy crutch pads for the handles. The velcro type fit well and really improve comfort. The thicker the padding the better.
You can also get a pod to attach to the crutch to carry things around in. It is called the Buckingham crutch pod and also works well without impeding movement.

For decoration tape is better than ribbon which could slip down easily.

powerslide panda How mean of the teacher! Dd is a wheelchair user now. Her school had a unit for physically disabled students so there were quite a few wheelchair users. At Christmas they all had tinsel on their chairs and Santa hats on their headrests.

PowerslidePanda · 11/10/2020 22:09

@NoHaudinMaWheest - I know! Plenty of other teachers had seen it and weren't the least bit bothered. Glad your DD's school is more supportive! Thank you for the info on accessories too - proper pads sound way better than my improvisations, and the pod thing blew my mind! Fortunately I've not needed crutches since childhood but if my condition does flare up again, I'll definitely be investing in those bits!

I decorated mine with tinsel a few years ago but stopped at the bottom of the handles so I didn't get itchy. I love Christmas and loved that I could extend my decorations to my crutches 😂🎅🏻🎄☃️
