Any ideas on inexpensive thoughtful presents that can easily be posted?

There are lots of things that can be posted easily within the UK. Or do you mean abroad? Royal mail small parcels ( max 16cmx 45cmx35cm) under 2kg are £3. Bigger item can be sent myhermes.

Could you send a gift direct from seller? X

I have this challenge too-

so far I have come up with the following ideas

jewellery
an art print (Etsy and Instagram have lots of reasonably priced independent artists)
A small fabric pouch/ make up bag
Nice pen/ pencil set
Packets of seeds
lipbalm tins
keyring
small sample size toiletries in a set
A magazine and chocolate bar
notebook
watercolour paint tin and brushes
tea towel
washcloths (muslin ones)
eco set (foldable keep cup and metal or silicon straw and fabric food bags
Hair clips/ bands
Nail varnish (not sure you can post this actually)
a book and lovely bookmark
magnetic photo frames for fridge

Metal Earth 3D models can fit in an envelope.
A personalised Keyring needn’t cost very much. Not On The High Street sell several nice ones.
Many of the products from Choc on Choc are a handy size for posting.
Card games like UNO, avocado smash, Top Trumps and Mapominos.
Children love having a set of colouring pencils personalised with their name. We get ours from Mulberry Bush. Ditto pencil cases.

@crochetmonkey74 you can post nail polish, up to four bottles in one package and it has to have a hazardous goods label on.
