Tree decorations!

LJZRBB · 05/10/2020 21:58

I have some serious Christmas goals this year.

I have looked online at all the obvious places for Christmas tree decorations. Nothing has caught my eye.

I don’t want to pay £10 per bauble! But I also don’t want anything too cheap looking. I want them to last a few years too!

Have you got any suggestions? Somewhere between John Lewis and B&M? Grin

I want to replace everything.

Hobbycraft have got some lovely velvet stars for £2 each. In 4 different colours....

Redshoeblueshoe · 06/10/2020 18:35

Well I'm going to lower the tone. I got some great ones in Aldi. They were small robot's. Paperchase had something very similar, but obviously they were much more expensive

LJZRBB · 06/10/2020 19:48

@Oneofeachclub

Gisela Graham decorations are beautiful and are stocked in our local garden centre. If you Google it will come up with online stockists including Amazon
I have just discovered them!

@tsmainsqueeze I tell myself every year I’ll do this, never do.

Some places you have suggested I haven’t heard of. Thanks everyone!

And I have I want my tree to look like the one on the John Lewis site Grin blush/gold/pale green.

Think I need to get some more realistic expectations.
@LJZRBB This thread is so up my street it’s unreal 😂🙈 I replaced all our baubles last year and if I get my way then this year it’s the trees turn to be replaced and I have serious tree goals in mind 😂 Balsam Hill tree is the hope 😍
What colour/style of baubles etc are you looking for? Do you have a theme? 😊
Balsam hill? Saw the price. Left the website. Must have closed the browser within seconds!!

Balsam Hill trees are definitely worth the price , or the sale price at least which is what most people pay .

TheHalloweenFairy · 06/10/2020 21:05

Ooh I am a bauble addict! I love them so much! I buy a few nice ones per year, one ‘treat’ one at around £10-15 ish, then a few that are around the £3-5. That way you build a really nice collection pretty quickly. I don’t have a theme per se but tend to stick colourwise to red, white, silver and gold so it’s cohesive. Always loads of stars! I look forward all year to having the tree up :)
Haven’t been blown away by any of the ranges so far this year, John Lewis seem really random, Cox and Cox are fab but I wish they sold more individual decs rather than sets. Think I’ll get mine from the garden centre this year, good old Gisela Graham.

TheHalloweenFairy · 06/10/2020 21:12

I miss The Pier for decs, anyone remember them?!

RWK29 · 06/10/2020 21:22

@LJZRBB Definitely not in my normal budget but I’ve been after one for years and keep telling myself it’ll last forever 😂🙈 I’m a sucker for Christmas!
As for baubles, I got gorgeous ones last year at all different price points 😊 Got really reasonably priced ones from Next, House of Fraser, The Range and Gisela Graham ones from a local shop - all usually £2-4 each. TK Maxx/Homesense is usually really good and sometimes Matalan depending on whether their colours are matching your colour scheme that year. I got a few pricier ones from Anthropologie too which are gorgeous but definitely more towards the £8-10 each mark!

@Floralnomad Glad to hear they’re worth the price 👍🏻 Hopefully this will be my year 😂🤞🏼

LJZRBB · 06/10/2020 21:30

I had no idea there was so much money in Christmas decorating!!!

This is my 10th or 11th Christmas with my husband. We’ve never had a tree!! Well. We’ve half arsed it previous years.

But we will all be home so much more this year to sit and look at it. That’s my justification (also not telling him how much it’s costing. He just won’t get it).

We have a family tradition that anyone who visits us over the Christmas period is asked to bring a decoration for the tree. It genuinely doesn't matter to us if it's new or second-hand, homemade or bought, expensive or cheap, a small plain bauble or something a bit more fancy. We do have a colour theme of sorts but only if people ask. We've had some really lovely decorations given to us over the years but more importantly so many happy memories of some really special people (some now deceased) when we open up the Christmas box each year. I don't think we'll be adding to our collection this year though!

Yes that is lovely.

I never had a tree until the year my (now late) mum came for Christmas. More than 25 years ago. I still use one or two from then and think of her. My trees are terribly "tasteful" and I'm very fussy. I always feel very jealous of multi-coloured ones that I see but I just can't bring myself to do it. I annoy myself!

BillyAndTheSillies · 06/10/2020 23:31

Homesense and TK Maxx for something a bit different. Picked up lovely neon stars in Sainsbury's last year - our tree is very colourful.

But every year I treat myself to a new one from Anthropologie.

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 07/10/2020 00:36

We have loads of Swarowski stars - dh always used to buy them at the airport when working abroad and it started a tradition.

The White Company lights I got a couple of years ago have been my best investment - lots and lots of little lights. We put filler baubles close to the stem then all those on real show are twinkly and gold or glass - White Company, Swarowski or somewhere much much cheaper. Really it's the hundreds of lights that make it special. I love my tree - always real and always at least 7 ft.

Carrive · 07/10/2020 01:21

TK Maxx - some really lovely things and I think they have a good selection online. My main tree is real and decorated with sparkly snowflakes (TK Maxx) with red ribbons, small gold bells (Dunelm), nutcrackers (home bargains), two ornaments from my grandparents, hand and footprints of DC with red ribbons, two gold birds, two music notes and two gold beaded baubles (all TK Maxx), string pearls (home bargains) and red filler baubles (poundstretcher), train set under the tree, and gold star (Home Bargains). Bought two doves this year (TK Maxx). Despite the bargain names, my tree is absolutely beautiful and appears a lot more expensive than it costs to dress. Agree with pp, lights make it and on an 8 foot tree I have 1000 white lights. I also put up an imitation tree, 4 foot from Ikea and quite sparse but covered in multi coloured lights (no decorations) - goes on landing and on timer so it is on every morning when we wake up. Amazes toddler every morning and night which was very sweet. Love Christmas!!

RWK29 · 07/10/2020 02:35

@StCharlotte 😂😂 I’m 100% the same! My tree is very uniform, it’s all one colour just with different styles and textures of baubles and I love it...BUT...every time I go into a shop and see all those novelty baubles that are popular at the moment it makes me want to decorate the coolest tackiest tree that I can 🙈😂 if I get my new tree this year then the old one may get set up elsewhere in the house and I might go for it with the novelty tree 😂

Thecomfortador · 07/10/2020 05:51

Do Cox and Cox still have the £20 off. £25 order refer a friend going? There were a few codes on the Christmas bargains thread last week I think.

I may be starting a mild Christmas tree obsession. I have no taste or style sadly but have got lots of white / cream baubles this year to counteract the 80s Christmas vomit we've gone for in the past few years.

CorpusCallosum · 07/10/2020 14:11

The first year after we married we had Christmas just the two of us. We did stockings for each other that we're just baubles/tree decs so we didn't mind spending £5ish on each one and got a decent number to get us started. Now we add 1 each per year.

It's a massively eclectic mix but I love them all 🥰

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 08/10/2020 18:08

I like a madly colourful eclectic tree too. Nothing matches, everything clashes. My signature style is 'pretend you are 5 again and bung it all on.'
Grin I have a lot of decorations I've made myself over the years. Also have a tradition that I buy a new decoration whenever I go on holiday (not this year obvs.) But I have decorations from everywhere from Finland to Las Vegas. Makes me smile whenever I get them out. Smile

Figmentofimagination · 08/10/2020 20:45

Batley, we like to buy decorations from our holidays as well. Our tree is a mix of pretty baubles, disney, and random holiday ones. Sample of a couple below

RWK29, yes the Balsam Hill trees are crazily expensive, even in the so-called sales.

Have a look at Christmas Tree World, just as good and much cheaper.

WonderMoon · 10/10/2020 12:49

Have you been on Etsy? You can get some lovely hand painted ones on wood or ceramic etc. Prices not bad and you helping out a smaller store.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 11/10/2020 08:13

I was in The Range last week and really impressed with what they had. Definitely worth a visit (at a quiet time) to stock up on some cheaper filler baubles. I always buy a few from The Christmas Shop in Stratford Upon Avon every year. I have also bought Christmas decs from Amazon too - some smaller wooden offerings and they are quite pretty.
