Hi
I know less than nothing about these but my 10yo has mentioned them... there’s Samsung around £80 or cheapy ones on Amazon; my question is about whether it’s worth getting one at all, worth paying for a ‘good name’ one and, finally, what do they watch / do on them?! Tia

My ds asked for one specifically to play Roblox on but the only sets to support it were either an Oculus Rift or another particular one (HTC Vive maybe?) both of which cost a couple of hundred pounds and also needed a pretty powerful gaming pc which we don’t have so we shelved that idea very quickly!

If you have a Playstation then I know there is a VR set up for that which is supposed to be good but alas! No Roblox so no good here. Grin

Thanks-so they game through them?! I was thinking they were used for improving educational virtual tours of ancient sites and rain forests, so I wondered why the boy was quite so keen!! He’s got xbox so I will look further.

My DH has an Oculus Rift and an Oculus Quest, you need a good gaming PC to use the Rift, the quest is a stand alone one. They are releasing the Quest 2 soon, cheapest is £299.

You can game on them, but they can also be educational, e.g. my DS went on a virtual safari and under the sea, and also explored the solar system with ours.

There are also games developed where one person plays on the VR and others can play on their phones, which is good fun as a family, if that's your kind of thing.

I struggle with VR as I wear glasses and find they make me feel travel sick!

My 9 year old has asked for one. Also to play roblox on. I can’t afford that much just for 1 present. We have a Xbox and he has a Samsung tablet and huawei phone. I don’t understand them at all

As they say, for the good ones you will need a gaming PC, probably £800+ for the PC and then £350 or so for the headset. Plus cost of games I guess.

They're actually not recommended for kids under 12. I don't know if they would even work as kid's eyes might not be far apart enough to see properly in the headset.

There are VR arcades in lots of places, if your kids are teenagers you can get an hour slot for £25 or so which would make a good extra present!

We have a Sony Playstation VR headset which we haven't used since we first bought it because of the awful nausea. It was like bad car sickness except it went on for about three hours after 20 mins playing SadEnvy
