Eyes closed for big presents, instead of wrapping?

Thinking of the scene in Frozen when Anne leads Kristoff to his new sled, has anyone given presents to their children in this way, making them close their eyes before taking them to where the gift is waiting for them? Anna thought better of trying to wrap it in paper.

My parents did similar once, and made me close my eyes before taking me to where a present which was too big to wrap was waiting. I loved that anticipation, and almost wish they did it more, and would do the same myself.

When I got my son a new bike for his birthday I had it in the lounge and I covered the door with wrapping paper so he had to run through it.

He absolutely loved it and 3 years later he still speaks about it. I thought it would he more fun than leading him there although leading him there still would have been exciting for him.

My dc got one Santa present and a stocking. The Santa present, small or large, was never wrapped: but always had a huge silver or white bow and tag. All the other presents were wrapped in versions of red green and gold.

We have glass living room doors so they were always covered so that none could peak before breakfast, then we'd all go in together . Not a blindfold but a big flourish. Lovely!

@AvoidingRealHumans I love the idea of running through wrapping paper!

Years ago living in a big old empty rattly house (we had a 2 room flat in the attic, the rest of the house was being done up and was uninhabitable) I gave 5yr old DD a clue, which led her to a piece of wool to follow Frozen style, which led to another clue etc etc. After about 5 clues the final piece of wool led outside and around several trees etc to a bike.

She LOVED it and talks about it still, but I genuinely don't see how it could feasibly be done if you didn't live in an enormous house.

When my friend was given a present too big to wrap, her kids organized a treasure hunt. The first clue was wrapped and the final clue les to the hidden present. She loved it.

Although I think the wrapping doorway is even better.

When I was younger we opened all our xmas presents. Then mum asked me to get her a drink of water. I went in kitchen, got her a drink and took it to her. Then she asked me to get dad one, again I went in kitchen and took a drink back to dad.
Then my mum said 'Iput, go into the kitchen and look for anything that might be a present'
I walked in and saw my beautiful purple mountain bike. I fainted with excitement! Grin

Apparently sometimes you don't even need to cover present or cover eyes if your child is as ditsy as I was 😳😂
