Hi, struggling to find any info online, does anyone know which of the supermarkets deliver on Boxing Day?

Thanks!

I wouldn't have thought any do, can't ever remember seeing boxing day slots, only up to Christmas Eve and then the 27th if your lucky.

Thanks, thought that might be the case. Going to have to figure out how to magically expand my fridge then!

None I don’t think. Even our deliveries only go as far as 23rd these days. They don’t deliver on Christmas Eve.

Can you get a cheap second hand fridge and put it in the garage - assuming you have one of course.

Keep in mind it is likely you may be won’t be having family around this year.

It’s often cold enough at Christmas to use the boot of the car as a temporary fridge. Generally, once the dinner is on, the pressure on the fridge eases a good bit.

JustThinkingAboutThis · 27/09/2020 17:05

I don’t think they do deliver Boxing Day simply because they would have to be working Christmas Day night/early hours of Boxing Day morning which most supermarkets understandably would not expect staff to do!
If you have the space can you buy a cheap half size fridge? This is what we have done. Most of the year we use it to chill drinks and stuff we don’t use as much and then it comes into its own for Easter and Christmas.
Otherwise a cool box with ice blocks in that you change every 6 hours or so might be worth a try just to give a bit of extra space.

I'm not sure they deliver the day after either. Fridge jenga is a Christmas tradition, I put absolutely nothing in the fridge that doesn't have to be in there, so vegetables go in the pantry, unopened jars go in a cupboard etc. if you have a cool box and a garage or watertight shed salad and drinks can go in there. I try not to over cater it's so easy to buy far too much, especially treat food.

One of those plastic ottoman things in the garden is handy for fruit, veg, drinks, cheese etc.

Needallthesleep · 27/09/2020 19:29

Thanks for all the suggestions. We are London so tiny terrace and no car, but plastic ottoman sounds like a great shout.

Will you really need more food on Boxing day? (Really not trying to sound horrible!)

Needallthesleep · 28/09/2020 17:39

@Sheknowsaboutme yes, we have a tiny fridge freezer and are doing back to back hosting of families. We will have a newborn baby so trying to keep things as simple as possible.

Get people to bring things with them to help you out. Especially things that need to be refrigerated!

unmarkedbythat · 28/09/2020 17:45

I'm not sure doing back to back hosting of families with a newborn baby whilst only having a tiny fridge freezer could ever be termed simple! Get your guests to bring food, I'm sure they'll be delighted to help out and won't want you struggling with all this.

CeibaTree · 28/09/2020 20:42

We have an Outwell 30l cool box we use for camping and have used it at home when we've been hosting a houseful of people. With ice blocks it'll keep things as cold as in your fridge. Good luck with your new baby :)

Sheknowsaboutme · 28/09/2020 20:49

Definitely if you’re hosting with a newborn, your guests should more than help out by bringing food and alcohol!
