Has anyone got a tried and tested recipe please?
Its traditional for the Christmas host (ha ha thanks Covid) to serve homemade liqueur, so I need ideas please.
Preferably with white rum as I got over excited a few weeks back and bought a few bottles.

Spiced Arancello

I make this most years, with vodka not rum, but it is super yummy, especially in hot chocolate!

What about a Rumtopf ?
Years ago I bought one for DH ( used it once then used to jar to store change in until it got broken)

You layer fruit , sugar and alcohol , I think the idea is to add it as the fruit comes into season.
The lid isn't like a Kilner Jar , it sits on the top but doesn't seal . Don't know if there's a reason for this ?

You then eat the fruit or cook with it , strain off the alcohol and drink it .

Blackberries, sugar, gin. Shake regularly. Strain. Gorgeous

abouttogoon · 13/09/2020 17:24

Rumtopf (?) sorry! Mind you I can't remember getting home from the wedding !!

Ditto but with Damsons or Sloes as the fruit.
RepeatSwan · 13/09/2020 17:35

Just put any fruit and sugar in any spirit, shake weekly and strain after a few months (as long as you've got).

werther originals butter candy

One litre vodka (brand not important)

Remove some vodka, crack the candies and drop them to the bottle

Leave in a warm place. Shake occasionally if you really want to be fancy.

Serve 'butterscotch liquor' over ice or ice creme.

Same method, skittles especially the sour kind. Separate into colours to maintain the vibrant colours.

Yes I've made damson gin in that past. Soooooo flipping good.
Appreciate all the replies, I'll take a look at all the recipes now x

This thread has all you need to know. The Christmas pudding rum is particularly good.

Queenfreak · 14/09/2020 13:52

I did try Skittles Vodka a couple of years ago ( I don't drink but I made some for New Year guests)

I did red and purple ( seperate) and ate the rest Xmas Grin

It dissolves without going through the dishwasher and I filtered it through a coffee paper , makes it clearer .

I really want to try Werthers Vodka and Sherbet Lemon Vodka but I don't know if my DC woud drink it ?

1000umbrellas · 14/09/2020 19:13

You're most welcome @Queenfreak ! That thread went up 8 years ago and I revisit it every year!

Queenfreak · 14/09/2020 20:00

@1000umbrellas I made it this afternoon. It looks like sewage, but smells exactly like Christmas should. I may have to sample it in a few weeks. Quality control

@FinallyHere
I've popped vodka and werthers on the shopping list. I'm an absolute sucker for sickly sweet liquers

Can I also suggest the Christmas Spirit in this recipe, made it a few years ago, and it was fab? Bright pink, and tasted amazing. Can recommend it as a cocktail with prosecco.

Does anyone have a recipe for a hazelnut liquor?

TheWitchwithNoName · 14/09/2020 20:14

liqueur even...

TailEndCharlie · 14/09/2020 20:48

Cranberry and Vanilla Vodka but I bet it would work with white rum.... it is a Nigella recipe. Looks v pretty even as it's being made!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/09/2020 09:45

I once made bottles of rum punch as presents, but it’s not guaranteed to keep for long.
Recipe came off a tea towel bought in Barbados.

One sour (lime juice), two sweet (sugar syrup) three strong (dark rum) four weak (water/ice for diluting. That is ‘measures’ of course, first three only in the bottles.

Some nutmeg and Angostura added.

This stuff needs to carry a warning, though, since it’s lethally more-ish and really does blow your head off if you’re not careful.(Speaking from experience here!)

newtb · 15/09/2020 09:49

witch would a combination of Nutella and vodka work?

MarriedtoDaveGrohl · 15/09/2020 09:54

Marking a place! I used to make chocolate vodka years ago and loved it.

Super sickly but fav is a mix of condensed milk and vodka, in the freezer.

newtb · 15/09/2020 10:04

If you Google there are loads of recipes for hazelnut liqueur.

There's always chocolate or coffee 44.

44 coffee beans/squares of dark chocolate
1 orange stabbed 44 times
Vodka

Put orange stabbed in a jar
Add chocolate or coffee
Fill with vodka
Put in cupboard shaking every so often

Wait a few weeks

Drink!
