“Toys” for teenagers

DD13 misses having “something new to play with/ do on Christmas Day” Obviously she’s too old for toys like her younger brother, but can anyone suggest anything we could get her that’d occupy her while they play with new toys and I prep dinner? Something fun?
She’ll get books and a board game, but I’m looking for that new-toy feeling!

What about a puzzle box? Or a bop-it or Simon toy that needs some skill?

PhantomErik · 11/09/2020 14:28

Snake puzzle? Just ordered a 108 piece one for £16.99 from amazon.

Radio control car/helicopter

Lego or nano blocks?

edithsmollet · 11/09/2020 14:34

bookmum08 · 11/09/2020 14:36

lughnasadh · 11/09/2020 14:41

Harry Potter/Mario Lego.

A mini drone.

A Switch?

Lockdownhairdontcare · 11/09/2020 14:56

DS is 18 and gets a Lego set every Christmas
DD is 16 and likes a jigsaw (sometimes 3D)

Cherryrainbow · 11/09/2020 15:32

In smyths they have model fashion design books if she's into arty fashion side she can colour, do own designs, stickers etc.

Timeforabiscuit · 11/09/2020 15:37

Japanese puzzle box?
Mensa type wooden puzzles?
Miniature arcade game (frogger/pacman)?

We bought Klask as a family gift last year which was a massive hit - but not too kiddy!

Would a coffee table type book on her "favourite thing" work? Travel, photography, animals and maps work quite well.

GreyishDays · 11/09/2020 15:38

Mini drone?

4forkssake · 11/09/2020 16:33

Lego architecture / technic / creator
Nano blocks (loads of things to choose from)
Scratch art set
Cross stitch kit

anuffername · 11/09/2020 16:36

Rubik cube?
Balloon modelling kit?

My kids are well into their 30s now, but they would be very disappointed if they didn't get something to play with Grin

I LOVE my bop it but I don't think they make it anymore. Definitely recommend 'Find it' - the original one is too hard for anyone younger than a teen.

Kaiserin · 11/09/2020 17:31

Rubik snake!
Or a 3D wooden puzzle.

Ricekrispie22 · 11/09/2020 18:05

Screwball Scramble level 2
Addictaball
Tap It game
Fimo kit
ThinkFun laser maze
Magic trick set

micc · 11/09/2020 19:46

mosscarpet · 11/09/2020 20:25

DD (16) loves the mini dollshouse/ theatre box kits and is getting something like this:
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01L59SCCC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

DD (14) is getting a diamond art kit

Ds (12) will get a lego architecture set

I always make sure they have at least one thing to "do" - often lego or craft things

drspouse · 11/09/2020 21:16

I got a Hape marble run for a big (adult) birthday.

Startaler · 11/09/2020 21:55

Some kind of craft set like diamond painting or a jewellery making set

stressbucket1 · 11/09/2020 22:54

Sprocket photo printer. They print out polaroid style pictures from your smart phone or ipad and you can add stickers/text/emojis. They are really good

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/09/2020 10:45

Adult colouring book with felt tips or soft art crayons.

pasinphoebe · 12/09/2020 11:52

Lego architecture sets eg the London skyline
Does it have to be something to do alone or with family?
Cooperative games where players work together are great - forbidden desert, pandemic, battle of hogwarts game.

FurrySlipperBoots · 12/09/2020 13:34

OOo, and a trick yo-yo! I had one the Christmas I was 24 and didn't put it down for a week!

PlateTectonics · 12/09/2020 13:36

The Turing Tumble is great if she likes that sort of thing.

Batshitbeautycosmeticsltd · 12/09/2020 13:36

I got DS a lock-picking set last year and he loved it! He's now taken up lock-picking as a hobby (yes, there are actually competitions around this hobby).
