Any thoughts, will it be able to go ahead?!

Bumping

Boxachocs · 20/09/2020 21:35

We booked in January and I really hope it can go ahead this year!

Marypoppinsisnosaint · 21/09/2020 06:38

Unfortunately still no reply, it doesn't surprise me. I've seen various comments on their Facebook page that people are waiting for responses. I have sent a message via social media too, fingers crossed I get a response.

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 21/09/2020 08:48

Please come back and let us know what they say @Marypoppinsisnosaint as I'm considering doing the same. It's so difficult. When I booked I hoped this would be a little glimmer of light after a pretty dark year but I worry about some of their responses to me and how little they are saying publicly. Almost like they're waiting for it to be too late for people to cancel.

Marypoppinsisnosaint · 21/09/2020 13:02

I certainly will @cometcupiddonnerblitzen. We booked in January after saving all last year to be able to afford to go. We will only be able to go once and I want it to be super special (like everyone does) I've booked a hotel too so I want to be able to cancel that. They seem to be very much avoiding any questions on refunds etc. We'll see.

zigaziga · 22/09/2020 21:56

I so hope if it goes ahead, it was wonderful last year. I didn’t actually book for all of us because it’s expensive and I didn’t think “worth” it for the youngest but I’m changing my mind now and think closer to the time I’ll see if I can add tickets if it goes ahead (given we’d be in the same bubble and a lot of people may want to cancel they might be more flexible??). Fingers are so, so crossed.

Marypoppinsisnosaint · 23/09/2020 10:13

I've had a response back although currently not answered my questions.

"thank you for getting in touch. So we can provide you with the most appropriate information, could we ask if you opted for TicketPlan protection when booking your tickets? Kind regards, LaplandUK."

I unfortunately didn't take out the ticket plan as it was another £10 on each ticket. I messaged back telling them I hadn't I a hadn't planned for a pandemic. Looks like we'll be going 😩😩

Marypoppinsisnosaint · 23/09/2020 14:13

Me again sorry 🙈🙈 they have just replied and offered me a full refund. My plan is to save that and rebook hopefully for next year.

zigaziga · 23/09/2020 14:46

I’ve just added to my booking. I cannot believe how much money I’m spending on this but I feel like it will be our only big Christmas activity the way things are going - no school Christmas fayre, no pop up Santa’s grottos etc. I’m just going to go all out on this one experience I think and not even worry about the rest of it then.

@Marypoppinsisnosaint I can definitely see where you are coming from with the masks but I’m just thinking that even last year it was maybe 50% outside anyway so hopefully this time it will be even more. And yeah, if Father Christmas is in a mask that’s pretty crap but they must know that.. and I hope are planning to move him outside or something? Maybe take the roof off the little huts?

JinglesWish · 23/09/2020 18:40

@Marypoppinsisnosaint Did you have to push for a refund? Or did they offer? I think I may do the same and book again next year. It’s a lot of money to leave with a supplier till next year, so the refund makes sense

Marypoppinsisnosaint · 23/09/2020 20:46

@Jingleswish actually I didn't. I thought I was going to have to push for it after the message regarding the ticket protection. When I messaged I asked if I could move to next year or be refunded. They came back with I could be refunded.

@zigaziga I've everything crossed that it can all go ahead for you. I am gutted, I was so looking forward to it but I just don't think it's the right time. I hadn't told the children as I was going to get the elf to bring the tickets so thankfully I don't have that to worry about.

Now onto getting my money back from the hotel.

deflationexasperation · 23/09/2020 21:59

I really don't care about having to wear a mask at all. It's such a small thing we are already used too in my mind for such a wonderful, joyous event. If it goes ahead it will be one of the only Xmas things that does. That alone will be utterly fabulous.

deflationexasperation · 23/09/2020 22:02

Zig, your right , so much outside and they could build buildings with roof but no sides, so protected from rain but open for air.

They can pretty much build and adapt as neccsary, even then its going to be a tough call.

zigaziga · 24/09/2020 07:36

Yes you’re right really, and I can imagine the desperation by then (our booking is only a few days before Christmas) - I’d probably be willing to bathe in anti septic and wear a full Hazmat suit to do... It’s just now Mary Poppins mentions it I’ve started thinking about explaining to my DC “oh yes, even magic elves can get Coronavirus” Hmm ... and I don’t want our Father Christmas meet to be with any masks in sight really..
I imagine he could wear one if necessary and it wouldn’t be too bad... their fashion department could fashion one out of the hood (or hide a surgical mask behind the hood) maybe ... ? I just hope the rest of us can be mask free for that bit.

And then for me, my toddler hates me wearing them so we try to mostly stay at home or go to outside places so I don’t have to wear one. In January I’d only bought one adult ticket and thought that I’d stay at home with her, or my DH could, because it wouldn’t be worth it for a toddler who won’t understand the idea .. But if it’s to be our ONLY Christmas thing I’ve decided it would be shame if we didn’t make it a whole family thing I think. But still, the idea of trying to talk to a chaotic toddler through the mask got any serious length of time Confused..

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 24/09/2020 12:00

@Marypoppinsisnosaint Thanks for the updates. I'm still on chat with them about the changes and we're trying to weigh up if we're still happy to go ahead.

For us the masks are a big deal. My husband is fine with them but I struggle. I suspect a doctor would tell me I'd be exempt but I can never be bothered with the conflict so I just go places as little as possible and only when necessary. Lapland has said they are only required inside and only on over 12s but it's weighing up how much that will impact our day.

Part of me just thinks it will never be what it was supposed to and we should cancel but part of me is clinging on as the only thing we have booked over the Christmas period.

Whatever we decide I think it needs to be soon.

JinglesWish · 24/09/2020 15:47

I’ve just emailed to ask for a refund. Really sad, but I don’t think it will be as magical. Will update once I’ve had a reply.

JinglesWish · 24/09/2020 20:12

Received a quick reply. They’ve asked for my details to process a refund. Impressive customer service, as I’d expected them to say they were still running

Figgygal · 24/09/2020 20:17

It’s surely going to be impacted by Covid and not the same fun experience
And at the crazy price they charge I’d want to go another year

zigaziga · 24/09/2020 21:19

I’ve just seen on their Facebook that at this point they are NOT anticipating they will have to put a mask on Father Christmas 🤞🤞🤞🤞

I actually think that they might be able to pull off something that is pretty decent. They have the luxury of space and the option to completely re-fit their entire operation.

deflationexasperation · 24/09/2020 22:00

They do have space and lots of options but will fc have a visor 😂.

Can't you just tell toddler fc wants to make us feel the same so wears mask etc.
