What's from father Christmas?

Just a fun one, I was wondering what you did as a child and what you do for your children. Are the presents In the stocking from father Christmas? Or under the tree? Is there just one big one from him? Or do you let them know you got them all? :) I love hearing about what other people do.
My DD is 4, we do the same as what I did as a child, the stocking is always from father Christmas. Everything under the tree is from mum and dad. Something that my OH does is start putting the presents under the tree before Christmas day! Which was so weird too me. My mum used to leave them until Christmas day, he would have them out throughout the month of December. Which imo requires alot of restraint from a child ahha, but we met half way and put them out a couple days before Christmas. It was so exciting seeing my DDs face when she woke up and her stocking was full, last year was the first year she got it.. and she was so excited! Cant wait for this year.. covid isn't ruining this for me! Haha

Everything from us is from Father Christmas. It was the same when I was a child too.

When I was younger father Christmas brought us a pillowcase with small presents and one under the tree off our letter we wrote. Anything else was off my mum and family.

With my DDs I do the same except they have a small sack instead of pillow case and father Christmas always seems to know what they'll need for the year. New socks, knickers from next rather than the supermarket, pens, paper, a bath bomb, clips, bobbles etc.🤣 But also small crafty bits etc

We buy the presents, as work hard to pay for them! Then, if Father Christmas says they’ve made it onto the good list, the family elf will pick them all up, and take them to the North Pole, ready to be delivered.
Have always told them that Father Christmas and his elves make toys in their factories, and that Father Christmas is in charge of the lists, and some parents do ask him to buy presents.

All the gifts, stockings and other wise bought by me are from Santa in our house, it’s how things were done when I was a child and it’s how I like to do things now. Santa only gets credit for the gifts I buy and I make sure my DD is aware if she’s been fortunate to receive a gift from any one else. There is plenty of time for DD to look back and understand or appreciate every thing in the future, Christmas magic really doesn’t last long.

I was always told all present and stockings were from Santa to Keep the magic. Also I suppose it stops kids going oh I had this off my parents and this off Santa and confusing friends. I will do the same with my own children until they are old enough to understand Santa isn’t real

As a child I knew there was no Father Christmas (thanks DBro!) but DD6 believes. Maybe 1 or 2 presents which she really wants are from FC, all other presenters are from friends and family. FC’s presents are around the real tree in the dining room whereas everyone else’s are around the artificial tree in the lounge. FC present always wrapped differently too.

Surely it’s just as confusing to the kids who don’t have everything from Santa, to hear that other children get a lot more? I think it is just as magical to get a stocking of things from Father Christmas as it is to get that plus other stuff under the tree. My cousins were “everything under the tree is from Santa” and we were “only stocking” - I just decided as a child that for some reason their parents had decided to pretend to them that the tree presents were also from Santa, and humoured them. I also easily worked out that when adults said “what did Father Christmas bring” - they meant “what did you get for Christmas” as if I replied “some chocolate coins and an ink stamper” they looked a bit taken aback! I’d have to add “and mummy and daddy got me a My Little Pony Show Stable.”

I never really had this issue as all my friends were the same. I found out about Santa not being real around 6/7 so I suppose it wasn’t such a big issue. Friends said Santa had brought things but I obviously knew it was their parents I just kept quiet haha.

When I was young, everything from our parents was from Santa, including the stocking.

We are doing just stocking and a couple of smallish presents from Santa, main present from us.

ellentree · 21/10/2020 21:25

Just stockings of small gifts from Father Christmas.

All other presents put round the tree through December. I used to love seeing the pile grow through December and my children love it too. They have yet to open one before Christmas but each year I start with a couple of boring ones to see if they still have restraint. I say anything they do open without permission, they won't get to keep! They are 5 and 7 now.

elQuintoConyo · 21/10/2020 21:37

Everything is from FC.

Except that gift from the dog, wrapped badly with bits of fur stuck in the sellotape.

And gifts from family - they're labelled from the giver.

UndertheCedartree · 21/10/2020 21:37

The stocking is from Father Christmas - it always has socks, candy cane, chocolate coins and satsuma in it along with a few small gifts. The presents under the tree are from myself and my partner and other family who have sent presents. I always put presents under the tree as I wrap the same as my mum did. Can't say it took much constraint - I wouldn't have dared touch them - I wouldn't want to spoil the suprise. My DC have a similar attitude, luckily!

Could · 21/10/2020 21:50

Only stockings from FC, but he's good enough to put all the bigger presents round the tree on Christmas Eve night while he's there filling the stockings up.

UndertheCedartree · 21/10/2020 22:09

I have to say I never remember dissecting as a young child what others got from FC and what from parents. We were just excited about the presents we got - not where they'd come from! I'm not aware that my 2 have ever thought about this, either!
