Help me find a new (perfect) Christmas tree?!

I’ve had the same tree for the past 12+ years, I loved it so much it’s the only one I’ve ever bought, but, to me, it’s starting to look a little tired now and I want bigger! I think it’s a 6ft, I want an 8ft (id like a 10ft to be honest but you know, me ceiling won’t allow!!!)

It needs to be full and fat as well as tall which is what I’m struggling with (even more so buying online)

I have attached some pics of my current tree, I basically want the same but taller!!

(Also ignore the lights! My traditional ones gave up the ghost and I had to panic buy LEDs....I’m also hunting for a mega amount of traditional lights as I can’t stand these! There is 2000 lights on this tree)

You could look at trees from the National Tree Company (an American firm) but some Garden Centres in the UK sell them, or the Balsam Hill trees. NTC are very good quality, my previous tree lasted 16 yrs before it started to look a bit tired, got a new one for last Christmas and expect it will last the same.

Thanks @girlywhirly I will check those out!

The Americans do go all out with their trees, and do a fair range of sizes.

Well...the utter disappointment when you measure floor to ceiling and you realise you don’t live in the mansion you dreamed of!!!

7ft tree it is! Fuming!

I thought you were being a little over enthusiastic with an 8ft! Maybe with a full and wide at the base tree it will make up for that.

WhispersOfWickedness · 07/09/2020 15:57

Do you have to have it on the base though? Because you could do 8ft if you don't have it on the box?
If you can bear to wait one more year, your best bet might be to wait until straight after Christmas and go to a garden centre for their sale. I wanted to upgrade a few years ago and got a £180 tree for £60 odd because it was the display model and in the sale!

Balsam Hill are good but very expensive, Christmas Tree World are excellent and more sensibly priced. Both have sales on at the moment.
I know what you mean about choosing the height. Our ceilings are 10ft plus so I thought a 9 ft tree would be fine, but when we measured where 9ft would come to we swapped to 8ft. The other thing to bear in mind is the diameter, ours, a Woodland Pine, Christmas Tree World, is 145cms , the 9ft would have been 157. It doesn’t sound much of a difference but it is when we measured and realised how much space it would take up in the bay, and how far it would stick out into the sittingroom.
It is very full and fat.

I've been looking at getting a Balsam Hill tree, they've currently got offers on although are still quite expensive. I like the Canadian Blue Green & Vancouver spruce trees, both appear to be bushy 😊🎄

We have a 7ft 6 tree from the Eiger ranger in b and q. They seem to bring it out most ranges and have a good selection of height and width to choose from. I desperately wanted a Balsam Hill when we were looking 3 years ago but because we had just moved house we were really constrained by budget. We went for the eiger and it’s been fantastic - love that you can put the branches on individually and it looks full and lush.

TommyShelby · 08/09/2020 11:35

*they bring it out most years... not ranges...

More coffee needed clearly! Grin

Kaemingk Everlands are great artificial trees, range of styles available including thick bushy ones. Can often find them in nice garden centres, but generally cheaper online. My parents have a green one, and the flocked one is mine.

Garden centre definitely so you can have a look at the display.

Mine is still going strong 10 years on - it may be plastic but am thinking that is pretty eco friendly, especially as my low ceilings are not going to get any taller.

We have a 7’ BH Fraser fir , it’s beautiful and I highly recommend them . I bought a 4’ alpine in the sales this year for the sideboard in our home office .

I have a Balsam Hill blue spruce and it is heavenly. Thick and luscious with no gaps providing you fluff it properly and looks exactly like the picture. BH trees are moulded from real branches and they have slightly varying branch lengths so you don't get a triangle tree and it looks real.

I bought mine in the sale and have had it 4 years. The storage bag is fantastic, very roomy, made of sturdy quality material with several handles meaning getting it in and out of the loft is relatively easy although it is heavy and a two person job, one in and one out of the loft.

I will tell you that the fact BH trees are big in the US and are found in lots of hotel lobbies, used in Macy's Santaland exhibit and on daytime talk shows swayed me and I was not disappointed.

I treated myself (well, our family but it's only really me who cares Grin) to a Balsam Hill tree a few years ago. They seem to have sales on regularly I'm not sure if anyone ever pays full price?! But it is honestly gorgeous and I love it. Ours is pre-lit with warm white lights, it's very sparkly but you could still add more if you wanted to? I'd definitely recommend the BH trees they are worth every penny.
