BUT - if I were to cook:

Breakfast - bacon butties or pastries

Lunch:

Starter - smoked salmon or scallops & chorizo / black pudding

Main - rare roast beef, mash, carrots, parsnips, sprouts, yorkies, gravy

Dessert - toffee apple choc chip crumble & custard

Tea - cold roast beef & mustard mayo barms, nice crisps

If I get the munchies late on I'll have cheese & biscuits, DH would probably have some toast.

NeverHadANickname · 04/09/2020 12:51

I have always wanted to do homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast but have never got round to it yet. Last year was donuts from a local coffee shop which was nice.

Dinner
Starter - homemade chicken liver pate with homemade caramalised onion chutney and bread/toast
Main - turkey, maybe ham, roast potatoes, stuffing balls, pigs in blankets, sprouts, roast parsnips maybe another veg, gravy and Yorkshire puddings.
Desert - this changes and I often like to do 2 or 3 🙈 last year was steamed chocolate sponge, sometimes might do a meringue roulade or profiteroles.

Tea - leftovers and a cheese board if people want it.

We tend to have a small breakfast then have the starter at maybe 11/12 ish? Then have the main at about 1-2 ish then desert whenever anyone wants it so we don't sit down and have a formal 3 courses so even though it is a lot of food it doesn't feel too much at the time.

So excited for Christmas!

muddledmidget · 04/09/2020 12:59

We normally spend a lot of Xmas day driving to the other side of the country so now have a tradition of pigs in blanket rolls with ketchup for during the drive with a flask of coffee!
After that, it's whatever our hosts want to feed us, but I do like yorkies, braised red cabbage and sage and onion stuffing with whatever they choose to feed me

London1066 · 04/09/2020 13:06

We're both vegan.

Breakfast: fruit & coffee while pottering about (maybe some chocolate if I've opened any!). DP has toast

Lunch: Nut roast or vegan style joint like Linda McCartney 'beef' joint with roast potatoes, sweet potatoes and parsnip with rosemary and thyme, brussel sprouts, peas and broccoli, cocktail sausages (Waitrose one are best), stuffing and gravy

We never eat dessert

Later on: snack marathon: vegan cheese from La Fauxmagerie (best cheese going - supermarket is rotten) with oatcakes, crusty bread and hummus, more cocktail sausages, olives, leftover roast joint on sandwiches, crisps and nuts

I can't WAIT for Christmas!

MorrisZapp · 04/09/2020 13:11

Normal brekky but with diet coke in a champagne glass.

Chocolates and crisps.

Traditional roast chicken dinner which in our family (Scottish) includes thin gravy, mash and roast potatoes and oatmeal stuffing among other sides.

Home made trifle.

Leftovers for later.

AriettyHomily · 04/09/2020 13:13

We usually have:

Pastries
Buck's Fizz

Lunch at 3

Turkey or my my favourite rib roast, all the trimmings.

Cheese

Later: sandwiches or cold meat, more cheese

Boxing Day breakfast, bubble and gravy .the best meal of the whole thing.

LunaLoved · 04/09/2020 13:17

10am chocolate
10.05am buck's fizz
1pm starter
3pm Christmas dinner
6pm puddings
9pm cheeses

There's so many lovely classy ideas on here but all I can think is "Donuts for breakfast? Fucking yes!!" Grin

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 04/09/2020 13:20

Breakfast : smoked salmon and scrambled egg. Champagne.

Lunch: roast pork, crackling, roast spuds, red cabbage, roasted vegetables, broccoli, cider sauce.

Evening: cheese and biscuits Or Christmas pud

The best food day is Boxing Day with cold meats and bubble & squeak, pickles and cheeses to graze all day

NeverHadANickname · 04/09/2020 13:22

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito 😂👌

CloudyVanilla · 04/09/2020 13:25

Next level. Mouth is watering just thinking about them. YUM!

Martinisarebetterdirty · 04/09/2020 13:35

We have toasted pannatone with coffee and champagne whilst opening presents. Around 10.30 we have lots of hot fresh cooked cocktail sausages, with chocolates, nuts and mince pies (with cheese - we are from Yorkshire) if people want them. Lunch we forgo the starter and have roast beef with all the trimmings, then trifle and raspberries for pudding and then cheese and port. We have roast beef sandwiches in the evening if people want them and the cheese is available for picking all day (as are chocolates).

FindingNeverland1 · 04/09/2020 13:36

B: 9am ish Sparkling OJ or bucks fizz with a selection of warm pastries and a fruit salad. Bit of chocolate santa too

Sn: caramelised cashews and other nuts / crisps / olives / crushed chocolate santa

L: 1.30pm Full xmas dinner with all the trimmings

Pudding: xmas pud, yule tide log, raspberry pavlova (not for me)

Sn: Cheese board, fruit and chocolates

D: 7.30pm Simple pasta and tomato sauce mainly for the kids but anyone can grab a bowl

Sn: chocolates, crisps, leftovers

Sairafina · 04/09/2020 13:40

Ours always starts on Christmas eve with thick cut ham, local eggs (which always seem to have a double yolk 🤗) and chips.

Christmas morning coffee is a latte made with a good glug of Baileys! Then on to smoked salmon and scrambled egg bagels - I always say it tastes like Christmas when we have them at any other time of the year, washed down with a Buck's Fizz.

Lunch is
Starter: Chicken liver pate on toast and baked brie
Main: Roast turkey crown with roast potatoes, yorkies, roasted parsnips, roasted sprouts with chestnuts and bacon, pigs in blankets, peas, carrots, cranberry sauce and lashings of gravy
Pud: Mince pies for me and chocolate gateaux for DH

Dinner: Cheeseboard! The highlight of any Christmas evening. Ours usually contains a goat, a blue, a smoked, a soft and a new with various crackers, pickles and chutneys.

I cannot WAIT for Christmas! It may be a little different this year as we'll have a 2 month old but this is the plan!

Mumratheevergiving · 04/09/2020 13:44

Just hang on just a second @mustbethewine what the holy heck are mushy peas doing in your Christmas lunch?

MaverickDanger · 04/09/2020 13:48

Breakfast: ham and cheese croissants with a fruit salad, orange juice and coffee.

Dinner: turkey with roast potatoes, roast carrots and parsnips, sprouts, red cabbage, stuffing, pigs in blankets and gravy. Pudding of roulade or pavlova.

Tea: cheeseboard with a ton of different cheeses, crackers (especially Hovis!) and chutneys. Maybe some M&S buffet bits. More pigs in blankets, mini hot sausage rolls. Chocolate log.

Chocolate throughout the day in massive tubs.

God knows what it will look like in reality - I’m due 10 days before Christmas so I’ll be lucky if I get a piece of toast.

NeverHadANickname · 04/09/2020 13:51

Ooh mushy peas, need to add them to this years list!

ILoveGroot · 04/09/2020 13:51

Love the idea of donuts for breakfast Grin

Pre-breakfast (whilst unwrapping our stockings): gingerbread lattes and lebkuchen
Breakfast: pancakes with bacon, almond croissants or brioche with a nice big cup.of tea

Lunch: roast chicken, all the trimmings, and either Christmas pud (for DH) or mince pies with brandy butter and sauce

Evening: buffet with cold meats, cheeses, nuts, sausage rolls, cheese straws, lebkuchen and stollen

Yummy!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 04/09/2020 13:53

Ooh almond croissants. That's like a classy donut. I might do that instead Grin especially as no-one else in my house eats nuts so I'd have them all to myself!

HalloumiFries · 04/09/2020 13:53

Ideal vs reality

Breakfast - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with bucks fizz (in reality, I will have this while the in-laws have bacon rolls and exclaim about fish with breakfast - I've never seen the like! It's been 24 years. I'll forgo the fizz and just have orange juice, as alcohol with breakfast will be a step too far for them).

Lunch - around 2pm
I'd love the starter to be baked figs with halloumi but that won't get make takers. Shellfish is also out, due to allergies so it is usually pate, melba toast and chutney.

Main - Turkey with all the trimmings (duck fast roasties, honey glazed parsnips and carrots, stuffing, pigs in blankets, sprouts with pancetta, peas, cranberry sauce and gravy ). Additional mashed potatoes for others (I don't like more than one potato product) and a small helping of braised red cabbage just for me. Ideally, I'd like to substitute the turkey for duck or goose one year but I've never been allowed.

Dessert - christmas pud for those who like it plus something else - probably chocolate orange cheesecake.

Supper - cheeseboard alongside a platter of christmas cake, stollen, turon, panforte, shortbread and gingerbread. We'll graze on this all evening. There's a bit of an international mix in the family so although the main part of christmas is traditionally British, we have a nod to the various cultures via the festive sweet treats.

VirginiaWolverine · 04/09/2020 13:54

Breakfast: chocolate from stockings followed by pastries with tea/coffee/fresh orange juice/champagne.

Noon: more champagne. Smoked salmon on Irish wheaten bread; caviar/avruga/lumpfish roe depending on budget on blini or melba toast; devils on horseback.

2:30ish lunch proper: roast chicken/turkey; stuffing balls, pigs in blankets, shredded, stir-fried sprouts with pancetta; roast parsnips; roast potatoes; gravy; cranberry sauce; bread sauce; white bugundy or pinot gris; Badoit.

Some time later: salad; cheese board; Christmas cake; Christmas pudding; claret/ muscat/port/madeira; more Badoit.

VirginiaWolverine · 04/09/2020 13:55

I forgot the swede and carrot mash with the main course.

MsSquiz · 04/09/2020 14:04

Breakfast - cinnamon buns/pastries with a huge mug of tea

Buck's Fizz while getting ready

Lunch - roast turkey, mash, roasties, carrots, broccoli, parsnips, Yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets, stuffing, sausage meat stuffing and loads of gravy!

Pudding - SIL's chocolate brownie trifle

Drink - Lots of Veuve Cliquot

Tea - roast turkey sandwich dipped in gravy

A mountain of chocolates throughout the day

Dartfordwarbler · 04/09/2020 14:04

Breakfast- home made mini cranberry/pecan American muffins- still warm and lots of strong coffee as young adults usually a bit thick headed...easy to eat when opening pressies.

Lunch: sort of pick and mix smorgasbord type of thing: home made gravalax (dead easy and way cheaper than buying smoked salmon), rye biscuit, pickled cucumber, onion, mustard sauce, scallops in porcini crumb

Dinner at 4-5pm: duck or goose with delias orange/port sauce, chestnut stuffing, roasties and special veg ( i.e. cooked in non standard ways)
Pud: we’ve ditched Xmas pud etc for a semi freddo - last year I did a choc and cherry one in a bowl so looked Xmas pud- also great as can 1. Make well ahead and 2) just have a little and stick rest back in freezer
Then cheese board

Maybe a mince pie at supper for those that have room
