He's worried by noisy toys so nothing loud please and dd likes him to have classic toys so I need to bear that in mind. He also has lots of toys already so ideas would be great. Current favourites are his farm animals, his books and his wooden trains and cars

grimms rainbow, or something similar

hiredandsqueak · 01/09/2020 13:26

He has a Grimms rainbow unfortunately as that would have been a good idea.

Those little tubs of plastic farm animals were always a favourite around here. When they are little they don’t really care all that much so I tends to give a small thing for them to open (and probably play with the wrapping) and some money for their piggy bank.

OverTheRainbow88 · 01/09/2020 13:33

Could you add to his wooden train collection, so maybe a bridge, a train wash; a turn table, a tunnel etc

FedUpWithBriiiiick · 01/09/2020 14:21

What about an easel and chalks? A toy kitchen? Ikea have lovely wooden ones.

Mustardbay · 01/09/2020 14:23

Duplo!

Thesearmsofmine · 01/09/2020 14:26

I would buy him something lovely for his train set, Big Jigs do some fab bits and ours have lasted really well over the years. Another idea would be a wooden Noah’s ark.

Mustardbay · 01/09/2020 14:26

Play doh, my 2 year old stopped trying to eat it by about 20 months.

Vert Baudet do nice wooden toys.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/09/2020 14:29

A favourite addition to our trainset when young was a port- it had cranes to transfer the cargo from train to boat and vice versa. I think it was a Lidl specialbuy (look out for these over coming months, they have lovely wooden toys).

A trike.

A slide

(As you say 18 months, I'm presuming a June birthday- we got the outdoor toys for Christmas so they could be used from Feb/march onwards rather than missing half the summer)

DioneTheDiabolist · 01/09/2020 14:31

A magnetic fishing game. There are some lively wooden ones around and DS2(2) loves his.

gigglingHyena · 01/09/2020 14:36

Duplo was well loved here, both the basic tubs of bricks and the sets with people, vehicles etc.

Does he have a toy kitchen, that was the other hit here. Extra bits and Bob's for that were always appreciated. The food which you can cut and sticks back together again with velcro was fun. Also along with the kitchen bits a shopping basket and till, so the whole lot could be set up as a shop or restaurant as well as a kitchen.

Some of the Orchard Games are from 18months. Little jigsaw (as in number of pieces not piece size) can be fun too.

Doll and pushchair.

This The Little Book of Garden Bird Songs (Sound Book) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1908489251/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_eALtFbZMEBS66?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

My DS loved the Little Tikes Cosi Car at that age. He was able to get into the car, open the door and move around.

Melissa and Doug have a nice range of toys and he enjoyed some of those.

hiredandsqueak · 01/09/2020 16:26

Ooh lots of lovely ideas, thank you Flowers

Duplo
Cars with garage set
Toy kitchen or work bench
Wooden toys are generally nice for that age if you look on amazon so much variety from plan toys, tender leaf, orange tree etc
Ride on things like 3 wheeled scooters or balance bikes

Stompythedinosaur · 01/09/2020 20:16

My dc used their wooden food from Melissa and Doug for years. They liked the food that could be cut up and velcroed back together.

Pepperwand · 01/09/2020 21:23

Melissa and Doug do lovely chunky puzzles. Like the old peg puzzles without the pegs. The characters (farm, dinosaur, pets etc) stand up on their edges too so can be played with that way.

17caterpillars1mouse · 02/09/2020 18:46

A nice wooden ring stacker. Dd20 months has one with a penguin on the top which she has loved for a few months.

She also has the Fisher price pull along
humpty dumpty toy which she loves

Wooden garage if he doesn't already have one

Ark - playmobil 123 have a nice take along ark

Hobby horse

My DS is just a tiny bit older but has been OBSESSED with this book for about 6 months now. It's been looked at so much that it's fallen apart and I've had to buy a new one!

Oh and maybe a pounding bench with a little hammer? Melissa and Doug do a lovely one where you hit one peg and another pops up. My DS also enjoyed a xylophone (although I was less crazy about that one).
