Baubles...

Help oh wise Christmas people... we only have space for one tree and it is decorated all in Navy and Silver. Every year we think it looks a bit bare. We have added to the baubles but I’m wondering if we should add another colour kind of to divert your eye?

We’re don’t really like tinsel but I’ve bought some to see if that helps.

If we add another colour what colour should we add? I was thinking Red but I’m not sure?

If anyone has any ideas that would be fab.

Pale pink maybe like this one from John Lewis

mmgirish · 31/08/2020 11:00

I like to add wide Christmas ribbon to mine. I wind it around before I put the baubles on. It looks nice.

IamChipmunk · 31/08/2020 11:00

I have navy and silver on my main tree. I also a add a little bit of gold in the form of a few baubles and also clear glass/iridescent sparkly. Ill see if I have a picture...

Burgundy or a very deep red would be beautiful.

Some gold would work very nicely too.

And possibly some white ceramic.

Ninkanink · 31/08/2020 11:05

Also think about varying the textures/sizes/shades.

So matt baubles in darker/lighter blue, for example. Or smaller gold baubles with a dimpled surface.

Deep red or burgundy baubles look great with some glitter elements as they reflect the light beautifully.

TrickyD · 31/08/2020 11:12

Navy, silver and red would look a bit too patriotic for me.

What about Turquoise?

oTurnToPage394o · 31/08/2020 11:27

Try winding the tinsel round the inside of the tree. Fills in the gaps and looks pretty when the lights shine on it. Then get some cheaper, plainer baubles in your colour scheme to fill gaps from the inside too

Ninkanink · 31/08/2020 11:47

Yes tinsel around the inside of the tree does work very well. A dark red, navy or green works best IMO.

Red white and blue might look a bit of a cliché I guess, so in that case I would go for burgundy and possibly add another element, like gold or a dark green.

minnieok · 31/08/2020 11:49

Gold always works, I like beads rather than tinsel

SpnBaby1967 · 31/08/2020 12:26

I have almost 100 baubles for my tree. Takes an age to put on but looks beautiful. I prefer it without tinsle

Cherryrainbow · 31/08/2020 12:54

Silver white and navy would look nice or maybe silver navy and a dark emerald green? Get a mix of sizes so even if u have just 6 larger ornaments it looks filled up :)

We use those string bead things instead of tinsel on our tree.

TrickyD · 31/08/2020 14:02

That is not many, SpnBaby1967 unless you have a tiny tree. Professional tree decorators recommend 100 per foot.

TrickyD · 31/08/2020 14:08

Oops, sorry SpnBaby1967, that’s lights per foot not baubles.

Maxineputyourredshoeson · 31/08/2020 15:28

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

I got the tinsel with the idea of wrapping it around the inside of the tree.

All of the bauble i have are a selection of sizes, textures and finishes. I also have approx 20 hanging nutcrackers.

I hadn’t thought about the tree looking patriotic, maybe red is out... I do love the idea of burgundy I was just worried it would be too dark.

i have a green tree i decorate in white, silver and ice blue which navy would look good with too. I also have a tree with lots of fake snow i decorate in white, rose gold, navy and burgandy, i have maybe 10 dark baubles and the rest light so doesnt look too dark. On my snow tree white tinsel looks ok on the inner part but i use beads on the green tree.

The range is the shop to visit, everything is colour and theme coordinated

Maxineputyourredshoeson · 01/09/2020 09:52

@Bananaman123 I absolutely love The Range for Christmas stuff, I have two beautiful standing Father Christmases from there and my wreath. I think the majority of my baubles came from there too. DH rolls his eyes every time I have a look Grin

A maroon or burgundy or violet would go lovely with the navy I feel. [santa] John Lewis has wonderful baubles, I fear an excursion to JL is in order. Grin

Maxineputyourredshoeson · 01/09/2020 20:26

I’ve already had a look on the JL website and fallen in love with some 🤦🏻‍♀️

I fear I have John Lewis tastes on a Range budget 😂

Howmanysleepsnow · 01/09/2020 20:29

Copper would work well

sohypnotic · 01/09/2020 22:17

Any jewel type colours would work with navy - teal, hot pink, purple etc. And just lots and lots of baubles with lights to look full

I have feather boas on my tree instead of tinsel and that works to fill in the gaps. I also think lots of cheaper baubles to fill in gaps.

TommyShelby · 02/09/2020 16:40

I second copper as an extra colour and I love @Scanner20 idea of the feather boas! How fun!

Maxineputyourredshoeson · 02/09/2020 19:44

I never thought about copper...

Have you thought about adding some individual baubles? we started off with the traditional red and gold but now we add new baubles every year and we each pick one or 2 so they fill on the gaps basically
