Having blown the budget plus more on a pikler triange, arch and bridge I now need some very cheap stocking filler ideas. In our house the stocking comes from Father Christmas and is normally very packed and DD1 will paying attention as to how full it is.

So far on my list I have new crayons and homemade sensory playdoh. She has multiple allergies so chocolate is tricky.

Bubble wrap. My 7yo gets this every year. She loves it.

Books are a definite winner with dgs and can be picked up cheaply in charity shops. I'd look in Willis they often have animal figures cheaply as well. Stacking cups are really cheap but have lots of play value. Dgs has raided my baking cupboard and helped himself to silicone brushes and cake cases so stuff that isn't necessarily a toy but has play value might work out cheaply. Woollen hat and mittens as they will be useful as well.

You can get really cheap bath toys in Poundland, stackable boats, squishy balls etc. My 3 year old still loves them!

TY Teeny Soft toy
Silly cup / drinking cup
Mini colouring book
Melissa & Doug water magic book

Squeaky bath ducks - you can get a 4 pack from the pound shop

Messy play kit - cat litter tray to keep the mess contained (£2), corn flour, food colouring, cheap kitchen utensils, measuring cups, orbies from ebay, jar of coloured dry rice. You could wrap each thing separately so it seems like loads, then store it all in the tray.

Go to the mnet Christmas topic and start following the Christmas bargain threads - this year it’s already up to the third one. People have great ideas and spot brilliant bargain.

I’ve used them over the last few years, bought some amazing presents that I wouldn’t have thought about or known about otherwise and saved hundreds and hundreds of pounds.

wibdib · 28/08/2020 11:11

This is the thread I’m talking about:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/Christmas/4006532-Thread-3-the-one-with-the-pink-fluffy-foreskin

Typically by the time Christmas comes around it’s up to about the 20th thread! So many bargains 😁

PowerslidePanda · 28/08/2020 11:12

Stickers - she'll soon be the right age for them. The foam ones in a bag will bulk out the stocking more than flat sheets - you can get them in Poundland type places, or Hobbycraft do quite a large bag for about £5 which has loads crammed in and has lasted us absolutely ages!

Titsend · 29/08/2020 08:10

Get some crayons and print out lots of Christmas colouring sheets on google. Staple them together and job done.

AChooooo · 29/08/2020 08:53

My youngest will be almost 1.5. In her stocking she’s getting:
Chunky pencils (already scribbling but not interested in crayons)
Stickers
Socks
Modelling dough (like plastercine)
Bubbles
Small instrument
Snap cards (will initially be used for matching)
Chocolate coins

That should fill it, if not I’ll just get some more socks to fill it out a bit more.

Lockdownseperation · 08/09/2020 10:54

Thanks everyone. With a big sister she already has loads of the things mentioned. I will look for play mobile 123 and some more sensory play for the tough tray.

@wibdib I’m too scared to go on the bargains thread. I will spend too much!
