Where do you buy yours?
And what do you put in them?

We made them last year and it was really easy. I only put some chocolates in them, but for adults I might put miniature spirit bottles in this year (they are easy to pull apart more gently than normal crackers). Maybe a hatchimal for my children.

TellMeDinosaurFacts · 27/08/2020 09:16

Lego minifigures or very small sets (the type that come in bags rather than boxes) for children. Miniatures or jewellery for adults.

TellMeDinosaurFacts · 27/08/2020 09:17

Oh sorry, and usually Waitrose when they have 50% off all crackers. I think they may not have had them last year though.

micc · 27/08/2020 09:20

My mum made them last year!
She made them all recyclable which was so fab, she went to a local soap shop as they had mini bars of soap, she also got little hand creams from fat face :) for my daughter she put in some chocolate and a small toy a think :)

Hellokitty82 · 27/08/2020 09:33

I always make mine, I buy my kits from "the works" (just checked online they aren't on there yet but they will be soon) but I have done different bits each years

Always put in a Christmas scratchcard

then last year
Earnings & cufflinks and clip on girls earrings for little girls from Accessorize and for boys a little toy watch

  • Lindt chocolate reindeers
  • Keyrings
  • Miniature bottles of alcohol /sweets for kids
  • Mini photo frames with the kids in and one with Nanny & Grandad for the kids bedside table
  • Socks (tags and card taken off so they roll thin then buy Christmas multipacks of them) they do go in if you roll tight and tie up with a ribbon 🎀
  • a small Christmas decoration (bought sets of them)
  • Mini snowglobes (usually from poundshop/ b&m or garden centres often have those racks of personalised children's ones)

I should have said, ours are reusable, not one use ones, so we still have them this year. They were made from toilet rolls, fabric, glue gun and some ribbon.

girlywhirly · 27/08/2020 10:33

Hobbycraft do make your own cracker kits, they are flat packed card with the snap attached. There are ties provided but you can customise them with your own choice of ribbon and name label.

I like the idea of fabric reusable crackers, but would need to make the barrel a decent size to fit in a gift, I’ve run out of ideas for cracker sized things as I’ve been making them so many years! Plus toilet roll tubes are so small these days.

Courtney555 · 27/08/2020 10:35

We do

Scratch card
Joke
Hat
Then for DS some kind of puzzle that will keep him busy at the table
The men have had wallet ninjas, or puzzles
Women, travel sized luxury toiletries or flashing Christmas earrings/brooches

cariadlet · 27/08/2020 10:48

I bought mine online from keepthiscracker.com They were expensive but they're really good quality and the card and ribbons are reusable.

Marmite27 · 27/08/2020 10:50

Last year was a scratch card, mini chocolate and a wind up racing toy.

Penguinbeaver · 27/08/2020 23:52

I've bought a set of mini musical bells this year to put in to crackers.

unexpectedthird · 28/08/2020 06:08

We had flower seeds in ours last year which the kids loved.
We've also done cracker secret santa in the past which was lots of fun. Each person had a budget of £2 to find a cracker filling for a family member.
It can be challenging to find things small enough to fit inside crackers that aren't as wasteful as the stuff inside normal ones though.
I didn't know about Keep this cracker. The crackers look great and a really decent size.😀

Hellokitty82 · 29/08/2020 13:41

Oh - I'm having an advent get together (we always do on/around 1st December) and this year I'm doing Christmas masks for everyone

Stompythedinosaur · 29/08/2020 16:40

I get something that will keep the dc busy while I am serving up - tiny lego set is good, we also did sylvanian babies once.

For dp I just get a small gift he will like - did a fire striker one year, bacon flavour lip balm another. Most successfully I got him a viking arrowhead once.

I particularly like doing my own cracker! I normally get myself some studs or similar (I have fairly cheap taste).

Someaddedsugar · 29/08/2020 21:05

@NoImNotPregnant Google Little Crafty Bugs - they do fab DIY cracker kits and I buy them every year and fill with alcohol miniatures, scratchcards, little toys etc

JuiceyBetty · 30/08/2020 10:14

I got a brilliant set from Dunelm last year. They were gorgeous and came with hat and joke too. I filled them with scratch cards, little bottles of jack Daniels, socks, mini Clinique toiletries.

Great link 🎅

I’ve been looking at fabric crackers online. You can get ones that come in two parts when pulled, and ones where you have to undo one of the end ribbons to get the gift out. TBH, I’m not all that bothered about them having snaps in, as quite often they don’t go off anyway we’ve found, the stronger the cardboard on recyclable ones the harder they are to pull.

Those who’ve made fabric crackers, which would you recommend?
