Hello. Had some really helpful suggestions for my DD so posting for ideas for DS.

DS is 5. He currently loves hot wheels, Lego and playmobil. We already have some Lego for him.

DH is Into coding and DS is showing interest. He also love science and just getting into board games. Just to give you an idea of his interests.

Any help with ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

If he's into board games, what about Monopoly Junior, you can get different character ones as well, such as trolls cars. We have the original one which went down well at that age and she felt grown up playing a version of Monopoly as my family love the game.
They also do a Cludeo and game of life junior versions.
Other games I would recommend are Hungry hippos, Jenga, orchard games are great and are educational too, Pop to the shops, Magic maths, Shopping list and Match and Spell.

My 5 year old got a Novie and is hvaing fun with him. They are in Argos - Small little robot that works with hand signals.
We have a game called the 5 second rule and he likes that too.

They are some great Orchard toys games for that age to match a variety of interests so worth looking on amazon at the different ones they have

National geographic do some cool project torches for a stocking filler. I know they do dinosaurs and creepy crawlies. They may do other options too

I always think the playmobil space station looks really good

Second this. The playmobil website had some of their space stuff in bundles with a discount last time I looked. Any local Science museums with an annual pass/membership? Labyrinth is a favourite game in our house, ds found my childhood version and is very competitive. Battleships is another favourite, we have an electronic version and he particularly likes being addressed as "Admiral" by it. Age appropriate editions of Jules Verne? Or Science themed Choose your own Adventure books.

My ds is also 5 with a coding dad and similar interests.

Your son sounds just like mine!

Board games that we’ve found that are fun for adults to play too are

  1. outfoxed - a bit like cluedo but WAY better
  2. My first Carcassone- great great game
  3. Ticket to Ride Junior- another great game.

highly recommend all 3.

At school, they use a Bee Bot for beginning coding. They are good fun

My son got the Hot Wheels Ultimate garage a month ago- it has been played with daily!

Oh thank you! That’s the kinds of ideas I’m after. Thank you. I’ll make my way through them. DH is a computer science teacher but for secondary so not overly familiar with younger kids coding stuff so I’ve given him your suggestions to look at.

Stikbots are good, my son loves those. You can make stop motion videos with them. Also Bloxels, you can set up your own designs and code little games.

I work in a junior school and we use this a lot with Year 3 upwards
