Wooden train set

Planning to get DS a wooden train set for Christmas (it's about the only toy I can think of that his big sister doesn't already have!). There are obviously quite a few different brands, I was just wondering whether anyone had any suggestions as to which brand might be best.

He'll be 12 months. Would be nice if it was one that could be added to in the future.

And apologies, I know this has probably been discussed many tines before but I'm on the iOS app and the search function is useless!

I don’t recommend glueing the pieces down - a big part of the fun as the kids get older is designing the track layouts, deciding which parts to include. Even my 9 year old nephew still plays with our trains stuff and works out complex tracks, it wouldn’t be as much fun if it was just one fixed layout.

We only did it as ds had just turned 3 and was in that annoying phase of us putting things together, he would then pull it apart and cry because it was “broken” Hmm

Wouldn’t have done it if he was older

Hah yes we had that fun phase too, along with throwing bits of the track at us. We did blue tack some of the pieces down at one point but I wouldn’t do that with a toddler in case they ate it.

We have a mixture of Brio, Tesco etc. My son is massively into trains so we look for track etc in charity shops and bundles on eBay and then but specific Brio add ons I agree with PP that the parking garage is worth the money and it gets played with loads.

Another vote for ikea, amazing value and so well built. I think the large set only cost us about £26 with the family card. There are also loads of add on parts and people for it you can get but the set on it's own is more than adequate. My dc adore it!
