Hi everyone! I am starting to plan for Christmas now and was thinking about putting together a hamper for my dad and his partner. Does anyone have any suggestions so I don't look too cheap? My budget is £30.

M&S nuts (pistachios, cashews tubs)
M&S tortilla chips or big bag of their nice crisps
Bombay mix
Box of Ferrero Rocher (or their fave chocs)
A mini Christmas cake and mini Christmas pudding from M&S (only couple of quid each).
A mini bottle of fizz or fave drink (like tea/ coffee from a posh shop)

All these go down well with my family. I made up a hamper for my dad's Christmas present last year with his favourite treat snacks including much of what I listed. Nuts though came from Fortnum and Mason as I had a slightly bigger budget.

Many people do a theme eg movie night, where they may add cinema tickets, a DVD, popcorn, beer etc. Or an Indian cooking hamper, where they may add spices, serving bowls, recipe cards.

I think the problem with hampers is that people can end up with a lot of stuff they wouldn't eat. So, I'd suggest buying poster versions of what they currently eat. You can also try buying goods from craft fairs etc. Regularly check out for offers in your local supermarket get items that are on offer.

Cheese and wine or port

Lidl and aldi do lovely Christmas stuff.

Depends what kind of thing they're into, you could add alcoholic beverages, food, pyjamas, slilpers, facemasks, smellies, wax melts. Or some other people have suggested you could do a themed hamper

I’d keep it to a theme. I’ve done Mexican, Italian, Indian for example.

I think I'm going to do hampers from small local businesses this year. It's been such an awful year for them. There's a local gin distillery so might get something from there, local cheeses etc

Coffee stuff or alcohol depending what they drink?
M&s have really nice bits you could add in too.

I think that is a cracking idea @Purplequalitystreet., I buy for 2 couples who are increasingly difficult to buy for but I know they would appreciate supporting local businesses.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to get online for ages (thank you BT) to reply. I really appreciate all your suggestions! It's got the juices flowing!

I'm just thinking of this as well. Toying between ordering made up hampers or making up myself for my dad (84) and my DH's grandad. I've made them hampers before and put in nice coffee, chocs, wine etc and then for DH's grandad I put in gardening stuff, gloves, seeds, tools etc. I ordered the kits off Ebay. x

The best "hamper" container I've received was a strong, structured shopping bag thing (like a posh bag for life). Way more useful than an actual wicker hamper and the kind of thing supermarkets sell around Christmas time.
I think if I do hampers this year I'll do the same.
