That won't overwhelm them but they'll feel the magic? TIA

Five or six? One main present, a couple mid range then a few little bits. If they are having a party though I would give less (say three or four).

Depends on how many presents they get from other people. Ours get a main present from us, a small from their sibling plus stocking. Also any new hobby equipment they need. But then get around 30 gifts from family.

Happyspud · 21/07/2020 10:24

1 main, 2 medium gifts and 3-4 stocking fillers.

bookmum08 · 21/07/2020 10:43

For birthday? Usually one 'main' thing and then something that goes with it - ie main present is a Baby Born doll so I would get a couple of outfits to with it.
For Christmas the same 'main' plus bits that match and a book/annual and a stocking with little things like a Hot Wheels Car, pack of stickers, bubble bath etc.

Sorry I just realised this is in the Christmas topic so it's obviously Christmas pressies Grin

Keep it simple, we did. One main present and a surprise, one stocking fully of little things that M & D would never ever buy. Our DC felt the magic right up to age 12 despite us keeping it understated.

Piratetree · 21/07/2020 11:02

Mine get a main present, some books, a small present and a very full stocking. The stocking contains 20-30 items usually but includes a lot of edible stuff, bubble bath, toothbrushes, socks, hair clips etc.

StylishMummy · 21/07/2020 11:31

We've done 5 'bigger' gifts £30-50 each then stockings, or 1 £150-200 big gift, 2 smaller £20-40 and then a stocking. Spend around £300 per child inc outfits etc

mrsed1987 · 21/07/2020 11:48

Wow we have already got 6 presents for our 18 month old for Christmas. Lol. We go a bit mad, think he had 20 last year ranging from £5 to £50 each

nevermorelenore · 21/07/2020 12:05

Main one from us, plus a smaller toy. Mid-range from sibling. Plus a couple from Santa and some sweets/silly little things in stocking. So about 5 overall which is plenty.

I think it depends on your family situation too. Our kids get absolutely spoiled by grandparents, aunts and uncles etc. But if you don't have extended family then you'd probably buy more.

Elenorrigbywoes · 21/07/2020 13:33

I try to stick to five presents each and their Christmas stocking. They get lots of presents from family so I try to keep to five presents under the tree. A larger, two medium and two smaller ones and it has worked so far. Now they are getting older the boxes are smaller so not as impressive as when they were small😂

CrimeCantCrackItself · 21/07/2020 21:20

I usually spent about £300-350 between birthday and Christmas (they're only 4 weeks apart).

I just went back to last year's pictures; 15 for birthday (one large) and about 20 for Christmas (not including stocking) Mostly small, couple of medium size. But that's including clothes which were wrapped.

Personally I prefer to go by budget rather than quantity, as it keeps me in check and plan better.
£100 could get you a decent larger present and then a few smaller ones.
Sometimes I do a challenge ie. Fill basket to £100 on john lewis website or argos website for example to get an idea of what things I would put in the basket. It's a good way to help you work out what you really want to buy ie. Do you go for the same types of toys, are you happy to spend more on a certain item, do u get drawn to something or are there things you end up deleting and putting back... x

About 10-15, but they don’t get any presents from anyone else, will MAYBE get one from their grandad.

OverTheRainbow88 · 22/07/2020 12:45

My sons birthday is end of nov, he’ll be 4 this year, and always has a party where he gets about 17 presents 🙄! I only show him and let him open about 5, I open the others and put 6 of them in his stocking( the ones I think he’ll like the most) then give him the odd one throughout the year! I think too many is overwhelming then they don’t really enjoy what they open just move on to the next!

MrsPworkingmummy · 25/07/2020 21:59

Our children receive one big present each (last year's were a Hoverboard and a ride on digger), 3-4 mid range presents (around £30-50 each) and a couple of little presents (e.g pens or a chocolate Santa). They are absolutely spoiled rotten by our family too. It's terrible really, but they're lovely kids and they don't get anything else throughout the year other than on their birthdays.

Oly4 · 25/07/2020 22:03

Ours get nothing from family so we spend about £250 per child
