What would you like to receive in a hamper?

Hi all,

So our Christmas party at work has been cancelled and I’ve been given the job of putting together a Christmas hamper for each member of staff. Budget is about £70 per hamper. I’d like to do something a little bit different to pringles and mince pies (although absolutely nothing wrong with them) so tell me - what items would you be really delighted to receive in a hamper at Christmas time?

Thanks in advance!

Wine and prosecco! 🍷🥂 I would like consumables like alcohol, chocolates and fancy nibbles to use over Christmas.

icedaisy · 20/07/2020 20:24

Yup, wine prosecco, maybe a Christmas fizz?

Nice biscuits for cheese, chutney, cheese if that was possible.

Our neighbour always does us one and it has things like fancy dipping oil, pate, truffles.

Are you having to make the hamper contents or just buy them?

If the person drinks alcohol, then something that can keep a little while. Wines, sloe gin, fruit in alcohol?

I was given some of the following and enjoyed them, as things I wouldn't normally buy myself: bacon jam (to go with cheeses), artisan pickles onions/gherkins, chutneys, pickles, nice cheeses etc.

TBH, I always find that hampers bought from a shop are incredibly overpriced for the contents. I've always done my own and put them together. In your case, just getting them done might be more of a concern? Maybe some non-food contents like seeds?

Not alcohol, you tend to get so much around Xmas time and is a waste for non drinkers /alcoholics/the many many people who don't like prosecco!

Decadent food stuff you wouldn't normally get yourself, fancy hot chocolate with mushrooms etc (not the cheap pre packed mug things you get).

Nice thick socks / blanket / a random book from bestsellers list (we done this one year and it started a sort of staff library/book club of sorts for months after which was lovely). Depends on the age ranges and culture of the company tho!

Prosecco, cheese, cured meats, chutney, crackers, truffles, lebukenen, bauble, hot chocolate.

Give people a choice of alcohol/non alcohol hampers.

MorbidMuch · 20/07/2020 20:50

A lovely soft blanket with a bottle of something and perhaps something chocolatey or biscuity as well.

EasterBuns · 20/07/2020 20:51

Love the idea posh hot chocolate has mushrooms in!
I would put in some posh chutneys and jams, truffles and cheeses.
Will employees be able to say alcoholic/non alcoholic, vegan/veggie, gluten free etc, otherwise you risk spending lots of money on things they can’t eat. Could some of the value be in a gift card?

AluminumMonster · 20/07/2020 20:56

Honestly, I think people would prefer cold hard cash. What about £20 hamper/xmas bundle and £50 gift card.

Nice biscuits, chocolate, posh crackers, fig chutney, a bottle of Prosecco, prosciutto ham, olives, cheese (although fresh produce is tricky, some special tea, fudge

Stompythedinosaur · 20/07/2020 20:59

To be totally honest, I'd much rather have a £70 voucher than a hamper as you're very unlikely to find something everyone would appreciate.

If it has to be a hamper, then I would like a fairly traditional mix of wine and posh foods.

Morgana7 · 20/07/2020 21:02

Scented candle or wax melts, mulled wine, Hotel Chocolat chocs, gingerbread person, Christmas tree decoration, Baileys, hot chocolate

Time40 · 20/07/2020 21:06

Yes, I bet everyone would prefer cash. I don't know anyone who actually likes hampers. Personally I think they're an annoying waste of money (um ... fifty people will be along now to say they love hampers, won't they?)

Fcukthisshit · 20/07/2020 21:15

Wow lots of good ideas on here already!

We have 1 vegetarian and 1 vegan so I’ll adjust their hampers accordingly. Quite a lot of my workmates have children, ranging from a few months upwards, so maybe some Christmas socks for the kids would be nice?

The posh hot chocolate is a great idea! Everyone likes a hot choc at Christmas.

I was thinking about the alcohol. I will put some in as all of my colleagues drink, but I don’t want to go mental with it so maybe jut a bottle of whatever they like to drink?

This is going to turn into such a big job haha - give me back a Christmas party to organise Smile

Cash or voucher. I know it sounds ungrateful, but I used to find hampers etc annoying when I worked in an office that gave out presents. Often didn't like the food that was chosen and could have used the vouchers, especially when times were tough!

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 20/07/2020 21:17

Have you got masses of people to make them for? If not, try and make them a bit more personal by adding their personal favourite things - for example, nice scotch for a scotch drinker or even nice hair products for a member of staff who likes getting glammed up and having nice hair.
Or even a wine and cheese hamper (contents of about £25) plus an experience voucher.

But I do think that if you haven't got too many that something that's personal and well thought out would make it that much more special.

ivfdreaming · 20/07/2020 21:17

The best ones I have had have been personalised to us - so something for DD and even for our cats! Then the usual cheese wine biscuits etc

Todaywewilldobetter · 20/07/2020 21:23

If you give cash, it has to go through payroll for tax!
Anything that you'd not add in your own trolley weekly I guess. The fancier stuff. I love hampers!

Fcukthisshit · 20/07/2020 21:36

@Morgana7!! Candles!! What a great idea! A nice spiced apple or something like that!

I'm doing one for a couple we're friends with, and it's going to be a food/drink hamper so I'm going to put in a bottle of nice red wine (they're red wine drinkers), some chutney, some of the wax wrapped cheeses you get nearer Christmas (Asda usually do them for £1 each), some crackers, chocolate and some nice crisps/nuts - I'm thinking of going to somewhere like M&S for little treat bits cause they always seem to do nice picky Christmas food
