Top trumps?

Blackdog19 · 11/07/2020 23:41

That’s a very sweet idea, but do you not think he may prefer a bigger present rather than you spend a lot of money on things that are gimmicky or a bit silly?

AbsolutePleasure · 11/07/2020 23:44

I'm sure he'd rather have the money.

Rosieposy4 · 11/07/2020 23:45

100% certain he would rather have one decent present or the money. Such a waste otherwise

Floralnomad · 11/07/2020 23:45

Just give him £210 , he will appreciate it much more .

whatwillicallmyself · 11/07/2020 23:52

Hi I will be giving him money but as he is so good to my two sons and to my parents I wanted him to have things to open on the day. So far I have git him a phone charger for his car, a kit for cleaning trainers, roulette drinking game, markers to put names on glasses, security belt for when he us travelling, king of shaves and trainer socks, so they are all things he will use.

I think it's a lovely idea. What a thoughtful aunt!

miniature bottle of champagne (about £3 in Waitrose)
box of champagne truffles
scratch card
mini travel toiletries (good selection in Superdrug!)
spongebag
pack of cards
21st Birthday mug
pen
Shops like Tiger often have quirky inexpensive gifts.

Good luck. I'm sure he'll love whatever you get!

llamaparades · 12/07/2020 00:39

yI would get smaller gifts to bulk up the number such as chocolate/ sweets x 2 craft beer x4 all different ones, something with 21 on like a cider glass, book, novelty bottle opener, hot sauces/ Nando sauces depending on what they like and then a couple of bigger presents such as T-shirt/ or gift cards for cinema/ food with the money that's left over.

Allmyeye · 12/07/2020 02:51

What are his interests?

longtimecomin · 12/07/2020 04:25

Fab idea, how about:

Belt
Tie
Chocs
Nice coffee
Parker pen
Mug with family friends photos on
Calendar with fam photos or his fav star
Grooming kit for nails etc
Wallet
Photo frame with pic of loved ones
Bottle of gin/vodka
T shirt with year of birth on

My DS is 21 in Dec (so this year for the first time he's having a combined Birthday/Christmas because he wants an electric guitar +amp)

Small presents
My DS would rather have money Xmas Grin but :

I bought a "Santa Needs Your Help Bob " book and clipped 10x £10 notes in the pages with snazzy paperclips .

'brand' under wear ( Calvin Klein boxer trunks ) TKMaxx or Sports Direct

Molton Brown 100ml shower gel

Some whitening toothpaste + a bamboo brush

Face products ( he likes Bulldog or Carbon Therapy )

Chocolates (who doesn't like chocolate Xmas Grin ) Hotel Chocolate little boxes

Socks (useful)

Guitar plectrum set in a wallet

(I do a Dec 1st Hamper for mine -both adults- they get PJs , bathrobe if needed , socks, underwear . Then Chocolate Advent ) Useful and I know they need them .

Your two DS can help chose something , it'll mean a load to your nephew to recieve something they've picked too.

Things he can keep. Decent electronics screwdriver set, leather initial key ring, personalised mug, personalised glass, cookbook, that sort of thing?

whatwillicallmyself · 12/07/2020 15:05

Thanks guys for your help, I have a few more things on my amazon list but unfortunately they don't send them to Ireland for some reason, it's great to get ideas.

Sorry now, with a load of N+Ns under my belt - they like MONEY!

Your idea is great, but I don't think they will care, they enjoy cash. Sorry if I offended you, I'm speaking from experience, and as a godmother to three who had 21st aswell.

Very nice of you to think it through, but they really don't care. Don't get me wrong, they will be delighted on the day, and then wish they got MONEY!!

Maybe add in one or two ideas +cash.

Sorry I didn't mean to burst your bubble at all.

123tigger · 20/07/2020 22:03

Daughter gave her brother 21 pairs of socks for his 21 first as a joke present.

Ilovefriday · 20/07/2020 22:05

Maybe give a few of the cheaper gifts with money hidden in like a £5 note under a chocolate bar wrapper, a £10 rolled up in a pen, notes inside a book like a pp suggested and then the things you've planned to make 21 in total. My brother did similar for my Son's 18th and it went down very well.

Cherryrainbow · 21/07/2020 09:00

Money. Money all the way. At that age they would have something in mind that £210 would be way more useful on.

I think every one kind of expects tat for their 21st that they don't keep, don't use and give away. I didn't keep any of my "21" stuff due to moving so much after uni cos of work etc it became part of the cull.

If you would rather spend that amount of Money on a present I'd say a day out/really awesome meal would be better

CrepuscularCritter · 21/07/2020 10:42

As someone who had 18 presents for my 18th from my mum, I would say that from my perspective it was a fabulous idea, and one I really appreciated. In fact I still have some of those presents many decades later, like a jewellery box. So much as I could happily have spent the cash at the time (was pretty skint), the memories of that gift and the sense of occasion it created are still with me, which might not have been the case with cash.

Now thinking about his list, you could certainly sprinkle in some gift cards and cash if you wanted. Books? Tech stuff like charger cords and wipes (never boring when needed), indulgent chocolate, accessories for hobbies he already has (I'm thinking guitar pick kind of level), t shirts, gourmet treats. There's lots of mileage in picking things that you wouldn't buy for yourself because they are too expensive for every day, yet would fit into the budget you have set aside.

whatwillicallmyself · 21/07/2020 18:29

Thanks guys I see what people are saying regarding the money and I will be giving him money from me but as he is so good this is from my two boys, and I already have half of them so cant go back now🤣🤣 I am glad you enjoyed opening your 18 presents I am hoping he will like it too as I am presuming he will be getting mostly money from everyone else.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 21/07/2020 18:32

For my little brother's 18th I didn't get him 18 presents because I was a broke student but I got him a student survival pack which included awful, strong, cheap weird alcohol from Aldi, a very warm jumper, and a copy of the Communist Manifesto.

It's not always about money and if someone took the time to get me 21 small gifts on my 21st I would feel very loved and would appreciate the effort and thought that went into it :)

Isadora2007 · 22/07/2020 09:38

I think he sounds like a lovely thoughtful lad so will appreciate the gifts too. Agree with others that perhaps his cash sprinkled round the presents would work too.
