Help filling an advent calendar with tiny drawers for 3 yo boy

Help.... Please.
I brought it last year thinking it was a good idea but the drawers are absolutely tiny. I can only fit things like small choc coins in which I don't want to put in for every day. Last year he was younger so I added some finger puppets which were scrunched in but I will need to think harder about it this year.

Any suggestions please

Its the middle of July!!
But I would just stick in a couple of chocolate buttons or something. No harm in a tiny bit of chocolate every day for a few weeks.

How about a picture of a treat?

Ristar · 09/07/2020 14:53

Stickers? You could buy a sheet of nice ones and cut them up individually.

What about getting one of those tubes of mini plastic farm animals/dinosaurs/sealife and splitting them up?
Amazon have a pack of mini pull-back cars 1inch long and half inch tall?
A whistle?
Rubber/sharpener?
Mini Thomas the tank engine blind bag things?
Bouncy ball?

Folded up strips of paper with an activity/gift written on them eg watch a Christmas film/see mummy for a candy cane etc.

Clues for a treasure hunt so that you could use bigger items hidden elsewhere in the house.

Lego mini figures

Mini baubles for a little Christmas tree

Coins for a trip to the shops for a favourite magazine.

Jokes to learn to tell the family.

Notes for activities - like a walk in the dark to see Christmas lights or a trip to do something Christmas related.

Hawkins Bazaar has great things , some might not be age appropriate but loads of 3+

I have an Advent Calander/Tree with tiny decorations in each door .
There's room to put a couple of chocolate coins in each (and when they were older a £1 )
My DC loved it , (they're adults now) every morning they took it in turns to open the door, share the chocolate and hang the decoration.

It depends if you want to avoid the chocolate'n'plastic tat ?

Search things out and hide them away . Job done and its a lovely Tradition in December .

I do little notes in mine with a treat written on, like watching a movie after bath time or a visit to Santa which I've booked.

Foam stickers www.hobbycraft.co.uk/assorted-animal-foam-stickers/622716-1000 (they might sell Christmassy ones nearer the time)

www.mulberrybush.co.uk/favourite-things-stamper-set Give him one stamp each day and on the first day give him the stamping pad

Brilliant ideas thank you.

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion it is early but honestly, these tiny little things are usually hiding near a till or are pocket money toys. With the threat of lockdown for however long, if I see something I am of a mind to grab it while I can! The postage and package otherwise will bankrupt me this Christmas 😂

I did this fir my DD thought it was a great idea when I first did it, and she adored it.

But every year it became harder and harder to fill. I ended up putting tat in it.

Luckily it broke and last year I got a big festive sack and wrapped 24 presents up, popped the number on and she opened them. I was able to fill it with Xmas themed presents like pjs and socks etc which seem silly to give on Xmas day.

Reduced the stress massively and she loved it even more.

sohypnotic · 12/07/2020 16:50

I had this problem with the advent calendar for my 2 years old last year. I put it choc coins, marshmallows, stickers, tiny folded copies of Xmas books (that were then hid somewhere in room) and happyland nativity figures standing in open drawers. I only put each object in drawer the night before - which was a good idea by the number of times the whole thing ended up on the floor!

This year I will also include marbles/bouncy balls, temporary tattoos, peppa pig charm bracelet/charms, balloons, baker ross craft bits

It's a nightmare, last year I had to stand the toys on top every night. It was a very stressful 3 weeks having to remember.

Cake toppers on ebay are usually pretty small, we've got a house full of small plastic figures. Or I hide the toy elsewhere and put a note in with a clue.

Days out, Christmas craft activities, fetes and buying the tree also feature heavily.

TheSockMonster · 21/07/2020 08:11

I have wrapped presents in a pile next to the calendar with raffle tickets taped to them. I then put a folded raffle ticket in each of the drawers. My DC are older, so we only have about 8 presents - but a 3 yo might not be so tolerant!

A Lego figure, one or two bricks at a time
