Going to start buying one or two things a month to spread the cost and so I’m not rushing around nearer the time. And who knows what will be happening by then.

What did you buy your 4 year olds last Christmas that they still play with?

I’ve thought of the Leapfrog Rockit and some stocking fillers so far.

Watching just because I also have a 4yo dd this Christmas 😅 I was thinking of buying her a barbie doll house as she keeps going on about how her Disney princesses need a home but I have no idea for stocking fillers!

Blimey it’s only June. I’m all for getting an early start but not this early

rollerskates like these, with knee, elbow and hand pads. They are great starter rollerskates since they just velcro onto the pair of shoes.

a cd player (look for a second hand one) and cds to go with it. We got a mix of audio books (good for night time) and music disks. You can also borrow cds of audio books at your local library when they reopen, so your dc won't get bored of the choices

Vtech kidizoom camera has been a big hit with our grandaughter (reccomend a memory card and rechargeable batteries). Her mum is putting together all her funny photos into a calander to give as gifts this Christmas. She's big on insect photos at the moment, and made a hilarious video of her dinosaurs visiting her castle. I've bought the vtech kidizoom unicorn smart watch to put away for Christmas and plan on buying her mum a smart watch for Christmas too. I'm looking at getting her a desk for her main gift. She's just had her 4th birthday and we bought annual passes to our local children's farm. A lot of farms and zoos are struggling right now so that might be a good idea. That was her fav gift.

Lego Juniors. (It's proper Lego not Duplo, but it's easier to build sets. All sorts of themes available- Disney princesses, Jurassic park, City, etc)

raindropshateyou · 18/06/2020 16:01

Bike, sylvanian families, barbies and accessories house, car, horse and carriage etc, play mobil, doll high chair and cot. Girls are definitely easier to buy for than boys lol.

I bought the Usbourne Jolly Phonics boxset and they went down well with a four year old www.amazon.co.uk/Usborne-Phonics-Readers-Books-Collection/dp/9526528182/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=Jolly+phonics+usbourne+books&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1592508279&sr=8-1
I got them on an Amazon offer for less than £20.
Bathbombs for a stocking were also a hit.

Another vote for the vtech camera. My DD has had hers for a couple of years now (she’s 6 now) and still plays with it occasionally. Lego junior was a hit here too, and easy craft sets that she could do fairly independently.

Her aunt got her a build a bear voucher and took her there and then they went for lunch. She loved that for something to look forward to in January.

Cherryrainbow · 19/06/2020 18:42

I've started watching old YouTube videos of "what I bought my kid for xmas" / "want need wear read gifts" for ideas. Might be worth a shot for inspiration x

thatselementary · 22/06/2020 18:39

No idea if this is any help OP but some things me/grandparents have got DD (3.5) are:

Polly Pocket (has similar Disney versions)
Toy hoover (so she doesn't keep nicking mine!)
Tea set
Cat toy with carrier and accessories
Disney doll (Barbie size)
Finger puppets (she has some and loves them)
Vanity case with rings, lip balms etc (Disney one at smyths)

Following this thread for any inspiration Smile

Sylvanian school (especially if starting school) - found imaginative play really came into its own after 4. Lego. Jigsaws. Wendy house.

Equimum · 11/07/2020 19:46

My son was 4.4 last year. He is still playing with his Playmobil pirate ship, Kapla Blocks and his bike. He also still spends a lot of time playing with Schleich animals, several of which were in his stocking.

LetsPlayBamboozled · 14/07/2020 12:47

DD was 5 last Christmas. We got her the Melissa and Doug Juice Dispenser which she was delighted with. Her friends all play with that and her wooden GLTC ice-cream set when they come round. She likes to play restaurant so it added an extra element to what she can fetch us. Highly recommend!

LetsPlayBamboozled · 14/07/2020 12:52

Also got her a Kiddiconcert after reading about it here. She uses it every night to fall asleep to music and if friends visit they use it for a disco or musical statues Smile

Itsallthedramamick · 17/07/2020 12:54

Getting my 4 yo a KidKraft mansion for her dolls. Much better value for money than the plastic official Barbie house imo

Teacher12345 · 17/07/2020 13:06

Sylvanian families and a horse stable from Smyths.

stackthecats · 18/07/2020 15:08

At that age things that were big hits with my DD included:
-- marble run
-- sylvanians
-- little live talking bird
-- craft items, pencils, paper, etc.
craft kits make a paper birdcage, house etc.
-- aqua beads
-- stamp kits and coloured ink pads
-- fuzzy felt

If you're looking for nice stationary/accessories/dress up type stuff I've noticed a lot of adorable stuff aimed at age 3-6 on claires and accessorize websites recently and in sale too! If I had a girl that age I would have ended up spending so much money lol x
