I bought alot in the sales, and lots at craft tents at try shows, then as soon as the non perishable food came into the supermarkets bought 4 things each time I went shopping.

Butcher was taking the meat order today so put that in a paid for it.

Got all the decs down out of the loft and checked them (they were with the Halloween stuff so got them all down)

To be honest, December is so busy with the mindees I never get time to do us so always get it before.

I but a 10.00 next/claires/debehams/Woolworts voucher a month, whichis sent to family away, and it dosnt really notice when you do it that way.

bought Pamper Day Voucher for DDIL when the place was doing a special in the summer (did check that it was valid for a yar) and the same for a ballooon ride for DF.

i've bought quite a bit for xmas already too. Feeling very chuffed as normally i can't be arsed, but figured that things on ebay etc are cheaper noe and also been buying bits in the sales. Got ds a load of stuff on ebay for £20, bargain!

Has anyone thought to try the bootfairs that are still about, just? You get some really good 2nd hand bits sometimes and can be V cheap. Does mean routing through the tat though, but I like that

oooo just remembered I can make ds a stocking now too, yay!

Kama dont be. spent 18 years as a single arent so got into the habit, now I dont need to and for the first few years with money bought early THEN bought again cos I could!!!

Now am sensible, and actually dont have many to buy for, so it is easy.

Shoshable · 22/09/2007 21:40

thats a single parent. doh

GodzillasBumcheek · 22/09/2007 21:45

I am in the mood for thinking about Christmas...i have been thinking about it alllll year as my dd has her first birthday a few weeks before - careful planning needed regarding gifts. We are also short on the green stuff this year (cash, not eco-friendliness, although the two are related).
Have been buying stuff i know she will definately want in small amounts through the year. Ok, four things. But it's a start!

kickassangel · 22/09/2007 21:50

would you all kill me if i told you that one batch of presents is bought, wrapped AND dispatched?

still got all the 'home' ones to do, but got the Irish lot sorted early

Shoshable · 22/09/2007 21:58

Kiss I havnt wrapped them Thats the part I HATE, have to talk DH into it, although DDIL loves doing it, so might get her to do all but hers this year

denbury · 22/09/2007 22:03

i don't do christmas shopping till december.i love christmas but if you can't do your shopping in 24 days it's bad planning.save money, yes but buy and wrap before december?! my kids change there minds every 5 minutes of what they want. i'ld be grey with worry that i had the wrong stuff if i got it before december!!

scienceteacher · 22/09/2007 22:03

I don't really get caught up in the stress side of Christmas. We are fairly low-key on presents - combination of having five kids (don't want my house full of tat, plus the cost of it all), and we are Christian, so have a very satisfying view of Christmas without going OTT.

However, what I'd like to do this year, is be organised enough to be better prepared for social functions. For example, DH always invites his employees over for mulled wine and nibbles, and I'd like to do a better job of preparing for that. It's all about relationships

I bought about 10 presents (for nephews and nieces at a Mini IQ party this week - am feeling extremely smug

GodzillasBumcheek · 22/09/2007 22:13

I am a nosey pig and am now wondering how much (for an older child, around 10) is reasonable to spend?
As kids get older they get their own hobbies and interests so surely it works out fairly expensive whichever way you try.
