Ideas for a 10 year old girl

Governoress86 · 30/05/2020 10:56

I thought I would start prepping for Christmas and start making lists. I am struggling on what to get my DD for Christmas this year.

At the moment she is in to Lego and watching YouTube and Barbie. She has tons of Barbie stuff and lots of Lego .

Anyone have any ideas?

a few ideas:

-rollerskates (with knee and elbow pads and padded gloves)

-new bedding with her favorite characters

-an experience, or pass to somewhere. might be good if you live near something like a theme park?

bookmum08 · 30/05/2020 13:01

Ask her in November.

Governoress86 · 30/05/2020 13:54

Roller skates are a good one
And bedding.

I asked her in November last year and all I got from her was nothing or I don't know.

10 is a tricky age, will she be top primary? Quite a few things change at that stage, they start to reject younger stuff. Room stuff is good but maybe in favourite colour rather than characters. Depends on budget really too. Ours were more able to do complicated craft at that stage. Maybe architecture type construction kits.

bookmum08 · 30/05/2020 16:45

Ok maybe not ask her in November but wait until around then to just observe what she is into. What's she is interested in now may not be close to what she is into in 6 months time. Things she may be into by then (books, specific Lego sets, the latest craze - whatever that may be ) don't actually exist yet !!!

Ricekrispie22 · 31/05/2020 06:20

Instax camera
Pyjamas that she can colour in from Selfie Clothing Co
T shirt from Illuminated Apparel
Ice-cream or popcorn machine
Kumi Kreator

Stocking:
Lego dots
Nail varnish
Baking kit
Bath bomb
Book

Stompythedinosaur · 31/05/2020 15:53

I'm thinking about either a sewing machine or a guitar for dd1 who will be 9.5.

I've also bought a Turing Tumble (like a STEM toy where you can use a board and ballbearings to make a computer to do calculations) for her to share with her sister.

bookmum08 · 31/05/2020 17:05

I never understand these threads. Why do this so early? Save the money up yes but why decide what to buy this far in advance? Do you know what nice treats (which is what xmas pressies are) you might want in 6 months time?

Stompythedinosaur · 31/05/2020 17:59

bookmum I spent a lot of time planning and thinking about Christmas. It's a hobby. This is the Christmas forum, where likeminded people discuss their interests. It isn't harming anyone.

I realise

Stompythedinosaur · 31/05/2020 17:59

Sorry, that was meant to say that I realise it isn't for everyone. That's why we have a separate forum (Which cam be hidden if you don't like it).

bookmum08 · 31/05/2020 18:39

Valid point Stompy.
I find the Christmas threads quite amusing to read sometimes but I will try to behave myself Grin

(My multi purpose answer for "what shall I buy" is always Lego. Buy Lego. Always!)

scrappydappydoo · 31/05/2020 19:23

Also by having some ideas early you can keep an eye out for bargains...

Governoress86 · 01/06/2020 14:15

I normally don't start prepping until September but due to lockdown I thought I would start my list early which I put into on my app.

Lego dots is a good idea i didn't think and also a sewing machine and popcorn maker is a good idea.

I do like to prep as much as I can early as I have a bit of OCD and get flustered if I dont plan it out.

I have 2 outfits on the list with some PJ's aswell.

My DD is at that age now where she is too old for majority of too young.

Thank you for all your ideas. Smile

The second series of Lego Dots is released today. I really like Dots.

SparklingXmas · 01/06/2020 21:41

Bluewavescrashing · 01/06/2020 21:45

Toastie maker
Fluffy socks

Decent paintbrushes
Ipod

A collection of art supplies and materials would be lovely at this age, if she enjoys being creative. Ds loves things like this (he is 12yo) but unfortunately has begun to realise that he isn’t particularly good at it, although he enjoys it very much and it calms him). It’s a shame, as I don’t want him to think that he has to be good at it to enjoy spending time on it, and he will get better the more time he spends.

Some ideas for painting:
A3 watercolour pad
A4 watercolour pad
Brushes
Palette of watercolour paints (reeves set of 12 is about £8 and a lovely starter set)
Watercolour pencils
Acrylic paints, a bag of stones, some spray varnish and you have a ‘painting rocks’ set
Mixing palette

For drawing:
Pastels
Charcoal pencils

For modelling:
Fimo soft
Modelling tools
Maybe a book of ideas of things to make. Ds has a good one which I can post a link to if you’re interested

WellTidy · 01/06/2020 21:54

For Rock painting, acrylic pens are much easier to be precise with than acrylic paints.

CostaCosta · 01/06/2020 22:09

Plusplus. It's like lego, but imo better!

Elenorrigbywoes · 03/06/2020 18:11

Our 10 year old niece loves sparkly things - last Christmas she was obsessed with unicorns so I made a unicorn themed hamper in a nice basket with a Christmas decoration, pjs, underwear, socks, hairband, hairbrush, silver earrings, bathbombs, chocolate, notebook and pen and small bits like that. She loved it. I picked up bits as I saw them and it looked well with cellophane and a bow.
Is your DD into anything like that?

GabrielleChanel · 03/06/2020 18:20

What app do you use?

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/06/2020 19:58

Blanket
Decorations for her room (next and h&m do nice bits and bobs as well as new look)
Colouring book and nice felt tips
Eeboo do some lovely notebook / sketch books
Bath bomb making kit

I would avoid anything Barbie as at 10 she may not be interested by christmas

Cherryrainbow · 04/06/2020 20:05

What about a pamper hamper spa day kind of thing, could even make it a mummy and me type one if you want to have a girly evening together!

Bath bombs
Nail varnish
Face masks
Dressing gowns
DVD
snacks

justwinginglife · 11/08/2020 17:08

I would suggest a day out, or event.

My 10 year old only ever usually wants clothes, money/vouchers, make up, bath bombs etc. She's already got so much so last year I booked us tickets to watch Matilda the musical as it was at a theatre local to us. She really enjoyed it and it gave us some time just the two of us which doesn't happen that often.

When I asked what she wanted for her birthday this year she asked to do something similar again, so I got her tickets to another show and then some little bits to unwrap.

Unfortunately it has been postponed due to COVID, which will be the case with most things this year, but hopefully we can go next year instead.

We don't end up having to find homes for lots of new stuff and it's great memories 😊
