Christmas Eve Box... 18m old & DP!

christmascrazyalways · 18/05/2020 08:39

Trying to distract myself during lockdown and get started on my Christmas shopping. My idea this year is to get all the little bits finished early so I’m not rushing round 2 days before Xmas spending ££££ on the little bits I forgot!

Any ideas on what can go in a Christmas Eve box for an 18m old girl?

And maybe my DP so he doesn’t feel left out Grin

hopefully the links work!

pyjamas for your dp

Make a joint one for you and DP. New pj's, popcorn to eat whilst watching a film whilst finishing wrapping the presents.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/05/2020 10:25

Is your DD 18 months now or will be at Christmas?

PJs for sure ( Primark usually do some lovely ones , I bought the brushed flannely plaid ones for mine so Festive but not 'Christmas' )

A lovely bath treat - something bubbly but suitable for delicate skin. Childs Farm are nice .

Chocolate (of course)

Mini box of biscuits

New toothbrush

The CEH is to get them settled and ready to sleep . It isn't "Oh another load of presents/when was this A Thing/ More plastic tat/ Some more American Import crap "

It's things they'd use anyway , eases them into Christmas and spreads it out so you don't have over tired over excited DC

My DC will be 18 and 21 by Christmas , we do ours on Dec 1st .
More ££ but again things they need .
And I don't need to worry about sending them to sleep or waking them up . Xmas Grin

Pjs
Chocolate
Xmas book or movie
Soft toy

For the dp I reckon a movie night kind of theme is good. Hot choc or alcohol, snacks, either dvds or browse Netflix lol x

SpillTheTeaa · 18/05/2020 22:08

DVD
Little toy
Book
Pjs
A little treat of chocolate maybe

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 19/05/2020 16:07

Pjs
Family game/activity (last year we had selfie sticks)
Dvd

Vodkafairy75 · 21/05/2020 06:08

My son was 22 months last Christmas. His box had:

Pyjamas
Christmas plate etc for Santa’s treats
Magic Key (we have no chimney)
Reindeer Dust
The Night Before Christmas book.
Chocolate
His stocking
Personalised letter from Santa (bought from eBay)
Decorate your own Gingerbread men

He had no interest in the reindeer dust so ended up sprinkling the oats on the grass myself 🙄 He wasn’t hugely interested in it to be honest but I think he will get it more this year as he will be almost 3.

For your DP, thinking back to the days when we had an adult CEB:

Chocolate
Crisps
Alcohol
Bath stuff
DVD (usually Elf)
Some festive crap
Pyjamas

Home Bargains usually do loads of things that are good for adding into a box.

mam0918 · 23/05/2020 11:15

ours who will be 2 and 12 get:

PJs
Book
Teddy
Gingerbread
Hot chocolate
Tooth brush
and another hygene linked item like a flannel/bubble bath/caracter sponge etc...

mam0918 · 23/05/2020 11:17

for me and DH (we share) its just alcohol and junk (chocolate bars, gingerbread, salted peanuts etc...)

mummmy2017 · 23/05/2020 11:19

If your crafty you could make blankets.

LaChatte · 23/05/2020 11:30

We do 1st December boxes instead, then if it's Xmas themed stuff it gets used for longer that year. Contains a variety of the following (not everything every year, just when it was needed anyway)

PJs
Slippers
Dressing gown
Duvet cover set
Advent calendar
Bath bomb
New decorations for the tree (bought in January sales)
Xmas book to read throughout the month
Scented candles
The elf (ours is a DIY customised barbie style doll, she's nice)
Xmas tablecloth (the same one comes out each year)
A small toy

Wowww thanks everyone for all your ideas - I have been visiting this thread throughout lockdown for ideas and can't believe my DD christmas eve box is complete!! She is my first DD so no idea if some stuff will be wasted on her but I've not spent too much... I've gone for:

  • The Snowman DVD (no idea why as its on telly everyday in Dec but love the idea of a dvd!)
  • Xmas Eve Book with babies name
  • White hot chocolate (in the shape of a reindeer, probs one for Mummy Grin)
  • Nice list certificate
  • Bauble with DDs favourite TV character and her name
  • Baby bath bomb from Lush
  • Letter from Santa
  • Christmas activity pack and crayons (99p from ebay!!)
  • Christmas Eve tray for milk and cookies
  • Xmas PJS

and I will prob grab some xmas socks from primark nearer the time and some milky buttons Smile

Poor DP still has nothing but I will scroll up on this thread for more ideas!!!

You're on the ball Christmas wish I was that sorted. Smile

Stompythedinosaur · 30/07/2020 18:45

Sounds like a good list! I agree with pp that the purpose for the CEH is to keep the occupied while I prep the veg and hoover, and to get them to wind down and get to sleep.

We always include an activity (when they were younger it was a jigsaw or sticker book, these days its origami or a modelling set), pjs, something to coax them into the bath (sprudels or bath foam are good or a magic flannel) and a dvd to watch before bed with some treats.

BiddyPop · 30/07/2020 20:22

Ours is a “routine for bed and sleep” box.

So there are new PJs for DH, DD and I every year (a new pair mid-winter is always useful).

A lush bath bomb (festive for DD and relaxing for me) - dd has her bath on 24th, I grab mine when I can before back to work in early Jan. some years, I find a nice but different shower gel for DH.

A Christmas beer for DH - he’s a fan of craft beers.

A hot choc for everyone - we like the wooden spoon with an ice-cube type lump of chocolate on the bottom types (and some come with a pipette of brandy for DH or I to enjoy a festive version...).

I also put in a plastic Santa plate and glass that I had bought when dd was a toddler - she used them all December and half of January when she was small, and they still come out for Christmas. Dd uses them to put cookies she’s baked and a glass of milk out with her stocking(which is also in the box).

Last 2 items are her hot water bottle with a snowman cover (also many years old and used all winter) and the family copy of “‘Twas the night before Christmas.

Lay out stocking and snack, festive bath, new cosy pjs, hot choc snuggled up on couch, then bed and the book with HWB warning her up for sleep.

She’s always known that Mum made CEH though, we don’t do Elves in our house. (At least, not elves that come to visit - they’re always too busy at the North Pole).

BiddyPop · 30/07/2020 20:26

I forgot to mention- the cookies on the plate are ones dd has made on 24th while DH and I work on prepping in the kitchen (peeling veg, making stuffing etc). Some years, completely from scratch. Others, just slicing the half batch that I keep from baking earlier in the month and freeze - and throwing those in the oven.
