Ohhhh il watch with interest for ideas....

I won't start buying until Summer but I love a list and may as well start them because when I return to work it will be chaos for Term 1

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 23/04/2020 11:01

Get them something they need- do this for as long as you can. My LO got a waredrobe last yr when she was2...her stocking was more little presents

Cherryrainbow · 23/04/2020 16:41

Pinterest has some great gift lists I think there's a '101 gift ideas for...' every age pretty much!

The want need wear read lists are pretty popular as well for minimal gift giving x

PowerslidePanda · 23/04/2020 21:12

Biggest hit by far for my two year old was magnetic tiles

sohypnotic · 23/04/2020 22:00

Stuff my DD got aged 2 and has played with everyday since:
Play kitchen and food
Mini trampoline
Happyland
Water magic painting book
Pip & Posy books
Paint pens
Wooden jigsaws

Now she's 2.5 she also loves
Dressing up stuff
Doctors kit
Reusable sticker books

Is your DC 2yo now or will be 2yo by Christmas .

If they'll be 2 at Christmas then just very low key , they won't "Get It"

If they'll be nearer 3 yo then they'll be more aware .

Aside from the presents there's loads you can plan (if you want to)

My DC loved going for a walk round looking at everyone's decorations
I took my DS out at 3yo (without his pesky sibling Xmas Grin ) to Lakeside to see Father Christmas , choose a tree decoration and buy a teddy bear for his little sister.

Stocking -if you want to .
Father Christmas Tray
I made an Elf (not On-The-Shelf) in a bed (just an old bath toy in a little box bed) that I hid in the Playhouse which DS and I 'visited' in the dark with a candle in a jar . He was gone by morning .

It's a lovely age , you don't need to spend loads , certainly don't buy too early !

Xmas Grin

DS was 2 last Christmas. We got him a balance bike, a Thomas little laptop toy and a toot toot pirate ship. They were his main presents, we also got books, stocking etc.

We have a large family so cant go too overvboard as the amount he gets is obscene!

His pirate obsession is here to stay so will use that as inspiration this year. Though have bought him loads since lockdown to keep him occupied!

DD was 22 months at xmas i brought her a little table and chairs for her to draw at, as my coffee table had to be put away due to my newborn. Depends on the amount of space you have, we also brought her a bunch of art stuff as well

sohypnotic · 24/04/2020 21:36

My DD was 26 months last Christmas exactly, and definitely got it - we did the whole Santa thing, stockings, elves, decorations - she was very aware and still talks about it now, so I don't agree 2 is too young to Christmas, totally depends on the child.

I wouldn't buy anything now. Who knows what's your child's interests will be in EIGHT months time.
Sorry but that's just daft.

Things I'm thinking of For my dd2 who will be 2 on boxing day:

  • Schleich safari animals (we have a farm and Schleich farm animals already which she plays with a bit)
-A wooden dolls hair chair (we already have a pram and cot which she adores)
  • happy land construction set ( we have the fairy's but construction seems more her interest)
  • some more brio train stuff
  • car transporter
  • some simple games (Djeco Little balancing frog game or Djeco magnetic fishing game)
  • some more things for the play kitchen
  • a Henry hoover toy

We already have alot of toys from dd1 but her interests are definitely different, though easier in that we can add to some collections like the toy kitchen

@bookmum08

Buying in advance is much less of a risk for a 2 year old as they have less idea of what to ask for and you can get some nice gifts that most 2 year old would be happy with / interested in then add some character pj's or whatever near to the time.

I agree maybe a bit too much in advance for 3 and a half plus

bookmum08 · 01/05/2020 17:59

I personally still think it's a bit early. It would be such a shame if come December your 2 year old is completely obsessed with the wooden train set they play with at Stay and Play or at a friend's house and all they talk about is "train train train" (talk about - not ask for) but you already spent money on a random tea set/box of Duplo/water table/whatever because you thought your child 'might' like it.
It's not my money though. So if the OP wants to Xmas shop - then whatever Grin.
