Leftover turkey ok tomorrow? Or to freeze today?

DH did the Christmas food shop and cooking this year and it turns out he bought a huge turkey crown and there's loads left. I've only just realised... Would it be ok to use tomorrow or to freeze now?

It will be fine. If it smells; which I doubt then no.

I usually eat leftover cooked chicken or turkey for a good 4 days or so (refrigerated, obviously) but I’m not basing that on anything more scientific than it looking and smelling fine.

I've always gone with 3 days for freshly cooked food (and I'm pretty twitchy about food!) so as long as it was cooked on Christmas Day, chilled well and is reheated properly it will be great still tomorrow. Enjoy!

My turkey carcass is in the fridge waiting to be stripped and re-cooked/frozen.

Turkey curry tomorrow.

It's always day 4-5 after cooking when I get round to sorting it and we haven't been poisoned yet.

Thank you! I'm off to read the leftovers thread for inspiration Smile

3 days is ok as long as it's only been cooked once and you only reheat it the once (i.e. as long as you didn't cook on Christmas day; reheat and then reheat again).

Elle7rose · 27/12/2019 19:56

Just for reference 3 days is really the recommended limit for food safety reasons.

I stripped the carcass and froze meal-sized parcels this morning, , but only because I’m expecting to be called away any time soon, for arrival of a dd’s no. 3. Would normally do it at least a day or two later.
