Christmas Day meal

So, I'm cooking Christmas dinner tomorrow for OH's family, which is fine. I'm of the opinion that it's just a roast dinner with a bit of fizz. However, I'm not sure what to do between having the starter and main course, as I obviously can't eat my starter and finish off cooking the main course. What does everyone do? Do I ask people to get up and have a little break between starter and main course, or leave everyone round the table whilst I finish cooking and serve? Dining area and kitchen are one room so don't have the luxury of leaving the dining room to finish cooking between courses.
I think I may be overthinking this...😂

You’re overthinking it, there will inevitably be a delay between starter and main as can be quite a bit to come together all at once for the main and serving it will take a bit of time but no-one will notice, just go with the flow and put someone on drinks duty to top up everyone’s glasses before the main etc, it will all work our fine

I had this problem at the previous house as the dining area and cooking part were together. It depends on what you are cooking but my goal was to prepare as much as possible beforehand. I even did a list a couple of times with small tasks. Usually I finish starter and get up to deal with meat, people stay chatting, I join a bit, DH clears the table and put vegs/sauces/chutneys etc (they all are together in one place) and then pour another drink. I serve meat and potatoes, people are helping themselves with vegs and sauces, and then we’re ready to eat. A couple of times I stayed at the table and DH got up to deal with meat when it was very heavy.

I always want a delay between starter and main course.
