Help with MIL gift- newbie here

I'm absolutely stuck with what to get my 70yr old step-MIL for Christmas. She still works 4 days a week, but had a heart attack this year, so no chocolates. Hates gardening & plants. Hates facials/massages. Also a picky eater so am discounting hampers too. They recently down sized & have every conceivable household item they need- her daughter is an interior designer and everything matches!
Any other ideas are really appreciated.

Why are you doing it and not your husband?

pissedoffwithprojects · 21/12/2019 16:24

What is your budget? How about books or a magazine subscription?

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 21/12/2019 16:25

Could you get her a nice hand cream set?

@Hedgehog sometimes people like buying gifts, I do all the present buying because I enjoy it. Maybe op is like me, its not a bad thing you know!

Thanks for the replies so far. Its my husbands step-MIL, not his mother. I tend to get all the gifts, or at least make the suggestions, but OH is as stumped as I am this year.

I thought of a book because she does commute, but unsure if she has a kindle. I'm sorted otherwise!

Leather gloves? Or Cashmere wrist warmers? I've only heard of those on here but seem popular. A good lipstick? Sorry these are all quite small things!

peachypetite · 21/12/2019 22:28

Cook book? Champagne? Vase?

NannySusan · 21/12/2019 22:29

I would second the wrist warmers or gloves idea as some heart medication can make your hands and feet really feel the cold. Bamboo socks or fancy heat packs might also be good.

One small step (backwards) for womankind.......

Another vote for Wristwarmers. Keeps fingers free for messing about with tickets / money / books but still toasty.

Bluerussian · 22/12/2019 00:31

Why don't you just ask her what she would like or to give a couple of suggestions? She might say something like, "Oh don't worry about me", but then you can tell her that you will definitely be giving her a present and would prefer it to be something she likes/wants.

justilou1 · 22/12/2019 00:33

How about ask where she likes to buy her clothes and get her a voucher from that store?
