I'd like to perhaps buy her a new mug and put it inside or something...any ideas?

She loves money and being 15 asked for that for her main present this year!

What does she want to spend it on? Many years ago I did this for my husband. He wanted to buy new records so I bought him a very old kitsch Christmas record from a junk shop and did a voucher envelope to go with it and a message that was something like ‘Christmas wax not up to scratch? Use this record shopping voucher’
So if she likes clothes or something, could you buy her a big pair of granny pants and put the money in there ... some sort of idea like that?! Or a tiny dolls outfit or something?

Wrap as a Christmas cracker

Put it in a string of wrapped boxes so she can take her time

KaleidoscopeEyes · 20/12/2019 00:27

You can buy plastic thingies in Home Bargains that fire the money out, that's what we've got for ours Grin

DecemberSnow · 20/12/2019 00:28

Put it in a empty Pringle container

My dd is getting some tickets ( so similar) and we’ve bought a Japanese puzzle box and put them inside that , it would also work for money .

Inks42 · 20/12/2019 00:41

Origami money flower

cakeandchampagne · 20/12/2019 00:44

You could put the money in a tiny, cute young child’s purse.

GlamGiraffe · 20/12/2019 00:47

Buy some fun xmas lotion or shampoo. Transfer contents into ordinary bottle for later. Wash bottle out and drain then hairdryer dry. Fill with shredded tissue (pole in with spoon handle)and rolled up money and glitter/ stars etc (roll money tightly and tie in roll with ribbon so it comes back out) . Put lid back on and wrap up bottle.
However from experience, (3 big kids) they just want the cash in their hand, (often envelopes arent even a necessity!! 😂😂)

For DS’s birthday one year I wrapped notes around packs of haribo and put them in a piñata

Aquamarine1029 · 20/12/2019 00:49

When my son was 16 all he wanted was cash. I got a big box and lots of little things. Body wash, deodorant, socks, candy, etc, and individually wrapped each one, and in the midst of it all with lots of tissue paper, I rolled the money with a ribbon around each note. He had a blast unwrapping all of it. It was lots of fun!

I made my mum a money tree when I gave her a lump sum once; sprayed some branches silver, cemented into a pot, cut Christmas shapes out of corrugated card and folded £20 notes between 2 pieces and blank paper in others so they had the same bulk. It was a bit naff, but it ment she had something to 'open' and a decoration.

A money maze - solve the puzzle to release the money, my kids love (hate) them Grin

One year we put bank notes into balloons and ds popped them to get the cash out , it bought out his inner child !

forgotmyusernameagain · 20/12/2019 01:06

Put it in the bottom of the biggest box you can find with a brick and a ball and packing peanuts seal & wrap box. Enjoy the spectacle of "omg what have they got me i wanted sterlibg"

BillHadersNewWife · 20/12/2019 01:09

Thanks everyone! I like Cakes idea of a purse...she probably needs a new one anyway!

Place marking. DS1 is getting a ski trip (mega expensive and not my idea) so I'd like to know a free way of making his spending money more exciting.Xmas Confused

BillHadersNewWife · 20/12/2019 01:12

Dione could you get him some equipment or a cool hat or something for it?

OP posts:
DioneTheDiabolist · 20/12/2019 01:44

I've paid for all his equipment. He was there at the time (for fitting), so no surprise. That's why I'd like to make his spending money (not a lot) a bit more surprising for him.

GingleJangleScarecrow · 20/12/2019 12:17

@DioneTheDiabolist

Put money/iou safely in a plastic bag
Get an empty tupperware box/ice cream tub.
Half fill with water and freeze.
Insert bag and fill container to the top.
Freeze again.
Give gift with a very small ice pick or possibly one of those toffee hammer things.

TinselTortoise · 20/12/2019 12:24

I'd get her a new wallet and put it in there.

Chasingsquirrels · 20/12/2019 12:27

I'm obviously not in the spirit of this, I did a bank transfer to my then 16yo last year and told him to check his online banking.

caperplips · 20/12/2019 12:30

Is she getting a stocking? I would put the money in a small purse in the very toe of the stocking so it takes her a while to get to it.

Hellohah · 20/12/2019 12:31

My friend is giving her son money (like you), she has put £10 in 10 different envelopes and done a treasure hunt. She's done riddles (like ... "What has hands but no arms, a face but no eyes?") and one envelope with money will be behind a clock etc).

wanderings · 20/12/2019 13:08

Here's how another family did it. The parents announced "we can see the pound signs lighting up in your eyes, so we'll play a little game." The teenage recipients (who loved riddles and puzzles) were blindfolded, and told to ask yes/no questions about where their cash was hidden in the room. Everyone else was in on the answer. Xmas Wink
They were encouraged to confer, and to move about between their questions. It was only when one of them asked "is it in front of me?", and the answer was yes no matter how much she moved, that they worked out where it was - tucked into their blindfolds, so they literally had the £ signs in their eyes!
