Present giving delay

Our children will have their Santa presents on Christmas morning as standard. But we’ve also got them a biggish present each from us. I’d like to save giving them those until we’re back from visiting family a few days later. DH doesn’t agree but I think they’ll find their Santa stash more than enough (they’re doing very well out of us this year!). An extra surprise a few days later might be a good thing. Does anyone else do this?

I haven't - but might - depending what the present was.

If it was something that they would want to use straight away but couldn't because 'Christmas' and ' Family' I definitely would.

Hmm

Back to the OP, I think this is a good idea. It's nice to a have that moment at home. There's always so much to open on Christmas Day that even the nicest kids can't really appreciate every gift. Spreading it out is a good idea.

(DD only opens presents from the family we're actually in the company of on Christmas Day. We open presents from other family and from friends on the following days)

We find spacing gifts out from family members is better than having them all at once. We also keep a small gift for Boxing day, which is a tradition which goes back through my family a couple of generations.

So good plan OP

Thanks all, not sure what MNHQ are looking at Grin

The gifts are a basic tablet and a kiddizoom camera so significant presents that may overshadow what they get from Santa. Also I don’t want to give to them while we’re away as they’ll take the attention away from gifts from family. Plus I want to spread the excitement out a bit!!!!

Was the extra gift on their list?
One year dd requested a toy ironing board - the one item we hadn't got. She thought Santa hadn't received her list and was really upset!!
Cue rushing to boxing day sale and hiding it behind the sofa as 'lost and found'. Not bratty but she was gutted!!

No both gifts are surprises!

There was an 'advice' article that said save a present until Boxing day. I loved this as a child, although it wasn't usually the main present. If your children will be happy anyway it can be nice to save something.
